I agree with you but there are many people who are subjected to the same things and then don't take drugs or sell them. As a society we need to find out the difference and teach this to our children.

My 6yr old son in Kindy said " What did he do wrong, did he take drugs?" I said yes he did something very bad and he needs help from a doctor. What do you say to a 6 yr old?

Cousens and John's in NRL show that drugs have no favourites. At least John's had the guts to admit it on television. I hope him well.

The latest news is that the initial charge has been downgraded so he might get off the charge altogether, which makes me thinking that either he agreed to cooperate with the police or some power-to-be has intervened again and saved him.

I don't think you're right. If you're quoting BF they seem to have made the same mistake.

            handcuffs?

All the reports say Cousins was handcuffed. Did anyone actually see that on the news vision?

Is Chick's career over now? I would have thought he would be a great addition to any team before this.

According to the late Ch10 news, he has been charged with possession of a prohibited substance, and failure to submit to a blood test (he refused to take one - apparently, you have to take one if the police tell you to - I don't know, I've never been asked!). That is the public knowledge.

The goss re what the AFL will (or can) do to the criminals ranges from heavily fining them, taking away their draft picks (could be they gave Judd away for free), and it is within their "rules" to possibly even delist Cousins (thereby making him unavailable to ANY club anywhere ... this is MY favourite option).

The criminals management have gone into shut-down mode (read PANIC) and will make a statement to the press tomorrow morning (about 11am EST). The least they can do to start to make things right is to sack Cousins.

C'mon people, let's face it. Once again, he's been given every opportunity to turn his life around. He slapped opportunity in the face.

How many other junkies out there do you think would love the opportunity to spend some time in a cushy rehab centre in the US and try to turn their lives around?

To all the nuff nuffs who cut me down every time I told it like it was re Cousins and his bad habits (since April last year) - do you want fries to go with those words? (Geez, that happens an awful lot here - I'm beginning to see a pattern.) I know a dickhead when I see one - and Cousins is their pin-up boy.

              Basically, the Cuz is ...

I think what people are getting at is that Benny was given every chance(a lot more than the poor old street druggie) to turn his life around and he muffed it....................

                      Bye Bye Benny..................................

Call me what you like. Sticks & stones, etc.

You've got to realise - Cousins is NOT the only person that's going to suffer over this. (I'm not even going to mention the embarassment his family must be feeling tonight.)

His actions have brought the whole club into disrepute and the WHOLE CLUB are now going to pay for it.

They were warned from the AFL to keep their noses clean (no pun intended). They could be fined an awful lot of money (no club can really afford to be fined), they could lose their draft picks, they could start the season in "minus" points (very hard to win a granny from negative 16), the other players could be drug tested twice a week for the rest of their careers ... it's up to the AFL.

The AFL should stick it right up the criminals and use them as an example - mainly for turning a blind eye to an obvious "culture" problem and letting that problem get worse, i.e. backslide. I suppose at the end of the day, they really only have themselves to blame.

Cousins should NOT have come back to football in 2007. His "rehab" in April (or the three or so weeks of it) obviously didn't work. To come back and play again (to a hero's welcome) sent out the wrong message. It said to Cousins, "you can do what you freakin like, we're still going to love you". That's not a very good message for a "recovering addict backsliding" to have in his head. It says you're OK, when clearly, you're not.

The guy is a first-class tool.
I've been saying he's a tool for a long, long time.
Now I'm simply revelling in the fact that the WHOLE COUNTRY knows exactly how much of a tool he really is. It has headed every news bulletin since late this arvo.

I sincerely hope some eyes have been opened over in the west. That would be one good thing to come out of this.

I don't find joy in his drug-related problems, I do find joy in West Coast's downfall because of their incompetence when it comes to dealing with serious issues like drug addiction.

Ben is treated like a god here, regardless of the outcome of his arrest. A lot of people in Perth don't acknowledge Ben's problems or the "culture" at West Coast. The club should've acted immediately when they were informed of Ben's problems yet they didn't. That's premierships before players for you.

                              Idiot.

I a believer that the only way to overcome drugs comes from within. Makes me wonder how a guy can have the inner strength to become elite in the ranks of the AFL, but falls off the wagon so soon.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
