Seriously, I don't care that it's benny boy - if it were one of our players, I'd be just as disgusted.

If Adam Goodes was caught with an ecstasy tablet would you really be carrying on the same way?

I don't condone anything Ben Cousins has done, but I can understand why some Eagles fans, especially the young ones, would be more than a bit confused at what's happening.

As for the Eagles' just cutting him loose, I would say that would be the absolutely worst thing for them to do. Sure he may never play football again, but to be cut him adrift from the club he's been at for his entire adult life would be a devastating blow right now.

People should temper their anger, and for some their joy, with the fact that the AFL world and WCE as his employer still owe Cousins a duty of care.

Cousins is a total idiot and I no longer have a shred of sympathy for him.

I was at his comeback match this year, he is truly loved and adored by the Perth public, he was given a 2nd chance and blown it. Given opportunities so many in society would give anything for.

I would feel the same way about any Swans player in the same situation, it is so disapointing.

Goodsey is a bad example. It's like chalk and cheese. Like someone said on BF last night, if Roosey found out that one of our players was on the gear - all hell would break lose. If Goodsey was caught with a tablet, he'd be copping it just as bad - probably worse. But we all know that Goodsey's not like that.

RE the AFL and the WCE as his empolyer ... did Dalton offer him drugs?? Have I missed something here? They did somewhat attend to their duty of care. They sent him to rehab. They TRUSTED him to do the right thing.

IMO, they slipped in their duty of care by allowing him to play again. At the end of the day, there was really no "punishment" paid for his indescretions and the disrepute he brought to the club and to the game.

He's being punished now. The WHOLE COUNTRY is talking about him and his problems this morning. It is BIG news. If the AFL don't handle this properly there will be huge ramifications from this, e.g. sponsorships, etc.

Well I disagree there. WCE owe nothing to Ben Cousins when he has continually lied and mistreated them. It's about time Cousins actually suffers the consequences of his actions - something that is yet to happen.

The response would be different, but it would also be different if it was someone who was respected like Scott West, Brad Johnson. So Goodes is a bad example.

If it was Davis on the other hand....

The Eagles should have done more for him in 06 when they knew about his habits. The culture of sweeping everything under the carpet has caught up with them, and as an administration they deserve everything that happens. On a personal level you would hope that his life is not destroyed - but it would be nice to see some humility at some stage.

"Knowing Andrew and his reckless behaviour, I thought he was dead," Matthew Johns said.

Any adverse health reaction would be self inflicted. However, his dangerous habits could kill someone totally innocent. That is far more tragic.

I dislike the Eagles as much as the next Swans supporter and the disappointing thing about this saga is that here is a young man with the world at his feet, Brownlow medal, premiership medal, captain of an AFL club, obvious sporting talent and he has thrown it all away for the sake of getting a buzz from elsewhere. I'm sure there are a lot of young footballers who never made it into AFL who would love to have been in the position that he was, without the substances of course. The fact that it has all been wasted is just very disappointing.

Once again using the same line, getting a bit dry now. As is your constant love for all things Eagles.

I have no love for the Eagles. Onfield, Hunter is my least favourite AFL player and I'm sure you can dig up some post-match anti-Benny comments from me. But I do miss the on-field villains when they pass their peak.

I don't mix up my interest in sporting rivalry with wishing harm on an actual human being or enjoying the results of addiction. It's just kicking a pig skin between four sticks FFS. Drugs don't care that Cousins has fans, addiction isn't easier to kick because you have money and a young man who could be a sporting great losing it all doesn't give me any satisfaction. I hope the AFLPA are looking out for him.

Agreed. What about adulation for a player like Adam Ramanuskas? (I hope I spelt that right??) He has overcome a potentially life threatening illness, which wasn't his fault at all, to be back playing in the big time. Guys like Adam and Mark Bolton should be the heroes. Maybe hard luck stories sell more papers than feel good stories??
