Tall poppy syndrome has nothing to do with taking delight in the drug addiction and career destruction of another human being.
Tall poppy syndrome is an ugly facate of the Australian psyche and the fact you take pleasure in it reflects very badly on the sort of person you are."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

We're not discussing try hard enough, we are talking about choices that shape peoples lives.
He was given a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th) chance, and now it appears he has blown it.
Many cancer sufferers would give anything for a 2nd chance.Comment

If you care to read the thread, it was suggested that Rama is "heroic" for beating cancer. By this logic, it must follow that those who die of cancer are not heroic.Comment

It reflects very poorly on you and others as human beingsComment

That stretching logic a bit far.
It is also heroic to beat an addiction.

I beg to differ. He has the resources to get the VERY best of help, care and guidance, something that is not available to your run of the mill addict.I have no love for the Eagles. Onfield, Hunter is my least favourite AFL player and I'm sure you can dig up some post-match anti-Benny comments from me. But I do miss the on-field villains when they pass their peak.
I don't mix up my interest in sporting rivalry with wishing harm on an actual human being or enjoying the results of addiction. It's just kicking a pig skin between four sticks FFS. Drugs don't care that Cousins has fans, addiction isn't easier to kick because you have money and a young man who could be a sporting great losing it all doesn't give me any satisfaction. I hope the AFLPA are looking out for him.Comment

Did Ben Cousins take into consideration what damage his habitual addiction may cause his family? If not - he's selfish.
Did Ben Cousins heed the information given to him as an ALF player on the drugs issue? If not - he's selfish.
Did Ben Cousins attempt to take responsibility for his actions, admit to having a problem, or even commit to rectifying the problem? If not - he's selfish.
Does Ben Cousins have any remorse for anything he has done in the past 12 months? If not - he's selfish.
Did Ben Cousins ever consider the danger he may be placing other people in with his habitual conduct? If not - he's a selfish disgrace.Comment

Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."Comment
