Given a player was left knocked down on the ground, it's probably not unreasonable that he was given 80 points for it, which would not be a suspension in the normal course of events.

The carry-on about Goodes getting a week is a bit silly - he's getting a week because of his carry-forward points. It's as silly as the carry-on over him not getting a week last year.

But that's having a bet each way. If there is no clear vision of it (they may, of course, have some footage from the other side that we haven't seen) they have had to infer that contact was made by the fact that Thomas fell to the ground. In which case, I am surprised they haven't deemed it to be moderate impact.

I also presume that the umpire standing right next to the stoppage didn't think it was anything other than an accident given that he didn't pay 50m to Port. And no Port player rushes in to remonstrate noticeably with Goodes either, which means either none saw it or they deemed it to be accidental.

I wouldn't like to call which way it will go but I think he has a reasonable case that the contact was accidental. Had Thomas been upright, it would have been nothing more than a solid push to the chest with the back of the arm. It could go either way.

Unfortunately that is not accurate. At least 4 Port players remonstrated with Goodes. From memory, Port scored from the foray forward from that free kick and as they ran back to the centre, Thomas was still being helped by trainers and Goodes was definately 'roughed up' by a few PA ruffians showing their displeasure.

Yes - I think there are a number of things that the Swans could challenge. The most difficult aspects will be that Thomas is holding Goodes, Goodes responds and Thomas ends up out on his back.

As I said earlier Thomas' holding on and his lowered head may be a mitigant.

It will be a close one I think.

OK, that doesn;t show up on the tape. It must be while they were showing a replay of the goal. On the recording, all you can see is one Port player run over to where Thomas is lying on the ground and try to call attention to his bench. There is no vision of subsequent remonstrations.

The nerd has just reviewed it again, and Thomas' motion is forwards all the time. He is gradually slipping down Goodes' body as Goodes tries to shrug the tackle. Goodes also moves forward and Thomas keeps falling downwards, landing face first on the ground. There is nothing that looks like recoil action, even just of the head, from contact from Goodes. That's not to say that no contact was made, but it certainly doesn't support the idea of any forceful jab from Goodes.

From that vision alone, you really can't tell where and whether contact was made.

Does anyone know what time (approx) we'll know the result of the appeal?

It's the only case up and I can't see it taking much time, whichever way it goes, unless there is more vision for them to argue the toss about. Not sure what time they start though.

I watched it closely at the ground as at first I thought Goodes had accidentally stomped on his head as he fell to the ground behind him.

Goodes was confronted as he ran back towards the centre square after the PA goal.

Mind you, it doesn't mean he is any more guilty because they confronted him, I still firmly believe it was accidental contact and he is very stiff to be facing a suspension, carry over points or not.

IMO I think the charge will be upheld and Goodsey's streak will be over.

*3 minutes later I find out he has been cleared...my opinion counts for zilch!! *
