Roos' choice of wording for anything Davis related is always particuarly interesting. Would he point that out for anyone else?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Boy was I scoffed at by the Davis crew when I suggested Davis was a poor mans Steve Johnson. Around the end of the 06 season too.

Perfectly valid to compare the two if you ask me.

I'm curious - has Roos ever said anything favourable about Davis?

I'd also note again that Luke Darcy commented on Saturday quite specifically that the coaching staff should be reasonably pleased with the effort Davis had put in.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Yes, I remember the time when Roos said that if he ever had to pick anyone to kick a goal after the siren to win a footy game, he would hope its Nick Davis, but that was couple of years ago now.

At the end of '06, I would have argued that Davis was ahead of Johnson.

Roos is usually friendly and informal when referring to the players, but for him to say publicly that Davis was brought back into the team "probably when he didn't really deserve a game" is a little bit more than unfriendly. To say that someone is undeserving - whether it's justified or not - is like saying they're unworthy. That's the sort of thing you say when you don't like someone. If a coach said that about me, I would feel unwanted, and question whether I had a future at the club.

Roos has thrown plenty at Goodes in recent weeks, does that meen he has no future at the club too.

We've known for ages that the Swans a whole of other, pardon the execspeak, KPI's to evaluate player performance. I would suspect that goals kicked features pretty well down the list for a player playing in the seconds when it is clear the focus for Davis is on a number of other things. So no I don't think it is a personality issue, I suspect it's Davis not performing in the way the club the club has asked him to.

It's possibly no coincidence that Davis has played only average and his games have been our two toughest games and our two losses thus far, when our midfield has been beaten and forward delivery has been atrocious. In those two lost games we have averaged 40 Inside 50s per game, against 56 I50s in the games we have won. A significant difference (and according to Pro Stats, Davis is ranked third for I50s in the team).

Compare his stats against other players in those two games.

                      Davis
                      12.0 D, Eff 71%, 3.0 CP, 0.5 CM, 2.0 I50, 0.5 Clr, 1.5 T, 1.0 G, 1.0 B, 78% TOG

No one played well in either of those two games and Davis' stats do not look significantly worse than anyone else's, yet he is obviously the scapegoat again for the losses.

Only the Swans, one of the lowest scoring teams in years (or perhaps ever considering ladder positions), would not rank highly goals kicked by forwards.

I think you miss the point.

He was asked to go back and work on his chasing, tackling, etc. The fact that he kicked 8 goals is not indicative of whether he achieved what he was asked.

If he sits behind play he might get a couple of goals if there is a turnover, but if he chases his man then the pressure can create a turnover and create a goal for the team.

If nothing else, Roos has proven he is a liar and a hypocrite.

                            17th April:

Speaking at the Swans' Thursday training session at the SCG, coach Paul Roos said the 27-year-old had done enough to earn his reprieve.

"He's (Davis) obviously keen to get back in, he had a bit of flu last week last week and probably wasn't able to do the things we wanted him to do," Roos said.

"But I think it was a good effort from him to play and to kick eight goals in the seconds."

Diving head-first into packs is obviously more valuable, hence Jude Bolton's continued selection.

You left out the heart monitor. As I said yesterday prepare yourself for some bad selection news. One look at the tapes would have told the story. You have seen him play his last game in the seniors in the red and white. Those who love the little cameos, the big bombed goal, the geriatric stoop to pick up the hard ball can see it all on display in Canberra. Next season hopefully he will be in the blue and red stripes. Thanks for the memories Nick.
