I'm celebrating last nights win by watching the 2005 GF again. It's almost a shame that the Evils wont play in the finals cause I'd love to see Sydney beat them again in a final. Our rivalry is real and alive.

The win represents one of those victories that lasts for years in your mind.
For the record, it was the:

      1. Best ever first quarter comeback, (down by 33), since the Swans came to Sydney back in 1982

      2. The third ever best half time comeback, (down by 36), in the 111 year VFL/AFL history of the club. (Equals that famous Kangaroos/SCG comeback of 1999)

      3. The best 3/4 time comeback, (down by 14), since the club won the 2005 Premiership.

      Sweet, very sweet.

Just in from a now-torrential Perth (I swear I must be Rainman or something-in 3 of the 4 places I have been in over the last 9 days there has been not only rain but downpours & flooding! )

Winning away from home is just so much better. Everything is against you. Everyone hates your guts. The umpires give free kicks because the crowd yells, then duly ignores ours.Seeing them dish it out then after the game avoiding you as possible as they avoid looking at you celebrating! When you are playing the human sewerage that is the West Coast Eagles magnify that by about 10, as seeing their smug faces looking down at us from the second tier at half time turn to shocked silence is as good as winning for its own sake.Giving them the finger & seeing them totally lose it is even better!

Was another awesome away trip to Perth. Was once again great to share it with our much-valued & astonishingly unflappable WA-based faithful who now greet myself & the regular travellers on a first name basis. One big vibrant red & white family, just awesome!

People are not only hearing about how great these guys are, the club is catering to them. We had a 400 strong function before the game that was really cool. All the former Swans players from WA were there (including Gerard Neesham & Gavin Rose) and the notion of the "Swans family' was so thick you could cut it with a knife. A guy called Scott from Sydney went to extent to do a documentary on the WA Swans fans, asking them questions as to why they were so passionate being so far away. The comment I think it was Carolyn answered the best was "Winning away is the best feeling of all. It is 43000 sheep vs 300 & the 300 come out in front!" Hopefully his doco will get on Youtube so everyone can start seeing what sort of people follow this club over in WA. The best thing of all was all hopping into the buses that were provided to take us back to the Perth Italian Club. Seeing the Eagles fans squirm or get angry as we waved our scarves out the window & generally wooped it up at them was even better!

As exciting as the victory was, it has to be said that we were very ordinary for much of the night, with the first quarter nigh on indescribable. Our policy of bombing it into our forward line meant giving the forwards any sort of decent service was nigh impossible. For the boys to somehow get it together & play under pressure like they did despite obstacles such as field umpires overruling goal umpires in crucial decisions & home town umpiring was just awesome. But we should not have let them get so far ahead as we did. Hunter (who the locals were swearing was alleged to have just overcome a recent bout of syphilis) was murdering LRT who I have to admit is starting to play on borrowed time in modern day season 2008 footy as far as I'm concerned.

Still, we won & the slimy cocky Eagles fans slunked out of Subi yet again. To all of you who I now greet like long lost friends (PerthSwannie, Swans63,WesternSwan,Nolie et al) thanks for being so welcoming as per usual. Was great to celebrate another memorable match against West Coast yet again. I hope you all gave the locals HELL at work today!!!

Glad you had a great time over here JF. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet you but maybe next time hey. Were you the one down the front with the drum?? Would you agree that the noise the Swans supporters were making was pretty loud?? Usually at Subi we get drowned out by those "others" but I thought on Saturday, we were just as loud.

You looked great on TV Jules ... your ugly dial all over my TV in the first quarter - outrageous!!
You looked about as happy as the first 20-odd pages of this thread.

My thanks to one and all for these enlightening comments, many of which were somehow cosmically linked to those flying around the lounge room during the game. We calmed our nerves with chocolate, wine, more wine, more chocolate, icecream, more wine, cake, wine, and language that made the air blue.

I love beating the wiggles, almost more than collingwood, nooo, come to think of it, well umm, not sure now.

BUT the sweetest moment in the game was the free against Hunter who is in my eyes the nearest thing to a Libba in the current game. Can't stand the skinny brute.

However, I take exception to negative comments about Jude. Being a pathetic I do watch the old games at times, and the number of speculative goals kicked by Jude is truly impressive. So he is crap most of the time at set goals, I can deal with that. So was Dunks. So is Brennan. But he is a ferocious competitor. And that will do me.

Hugs all round to my family of Swans. A truly satisfying victory.

I also think it's sweet that Ratboy gave away the free kick that won us the game.

well what an evening - yelled so much that I reckon Fartin Phil next door may have had an accident whilst he was outside in the cold having a smoke if he heard my over zealous yelling break into the still of the night..

Drank far too much wine - so I was probably shouting at the teve and telling myself to shut up!

Secondly - got a load of sms messages and a phone call at half time from Perth by my dearest friend's West Coast supporting knob of a husband. Now by this time I was pretty much through the bottle of red - so finally after 20 odd years of enduring this tosser I let him have it "never liked you when I met you, havent liked you since, so f..k off" - so once full time came - I rang them "suck eggs and die losers" and hung up. - most unattractive I know - but I reckon if Belinda Neal can get away with such language and obscenity ,surely I can! (got the reprimand phone call on Sunday morning from his mother in law!) so there were 2 upsides to this win!

The umpiring was interesting - but at the end of the day - we won - its the 4 points and we still have the highest percentage. and as many have mentioned before - god it was good the get the free kick against that numbnut Hunter!

                          This match:

                          * equal third from 1/2 time deficit (36 points is tied with that memorable game against the Kangaroos in 1999) - best is 45 points
                          * equal seventh from 1/4-time deficit (33 points) - best is 45 points

Typical Eagle tool by the sound of things. They read the West Australian drivel that pumps the Illeagles up to be world beaters & dish out all sort of verbal sewerage. Then when their team of 'word beaters' get beaten again, they all disappear again & again. Just like they did in 2005 after we won the flag, all going back to their hotels to get out of their colours as soon as they can.

It is good to see Swans fans starting to dish it back at them at long last. Being polite & fair-minded can only get you so far when your protagonists never learn. I hope our Wa-based fans game the local morons hell on Monday! As see Eagle twats squirming & morose is the best thing you can experience in football

As can often be the case against the Eagles Crows & Brisbane, our chanting actually gets the rest of the crowd going as well. Compared to how loud we were against Port we were actually pretty quiet. But you could still hear both the downstairs & upstairs portion of Swans support when the chants got going.

I'll try & get over each year from now on. Beating the Eagles feels too good not to.
