Davis asks for second chance

Without Shane Ellen, Malcolm Blight might have been just another coach who could take sides to the grand final but could never secure the ultimate prize. Didn't give him a guarantee of a game for the next 5 years.
Apart from Davis' unwillingness to move from Sydney, and many other clubs' unwillingness to take the chance, a further impediment to a Davis trade would be whether Sydney would get lumbered with paying part of his salary at the new club (as happened in, for example, the Nick Daffy trade as I understand it).Comment

Agree with Lobster's post. I can't see how Ireland's comments can possibly be construed as negative for Nick's future."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Just to clarify for everyone, my comment re the 2005 semi was tongue in cheek.Comment

Why Playfair over Davis...
1. He's big and very hard to out mark. Even if he doesn't mark the ball, he grounds the ball for our rovers.
2. the guy can tackle and hustles and he also chases
Playfair needs to work on his kicking and I think he'll be more of an assett to us. Right now we have a very well rounded forward line, let's leave it the way it is.Comment

I wonder how Playfair will improve his kicking now if it looks like this after five seasons with Geelong?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I think nick davis is great & would love to see him in the team, however he needs to get his act together quickly since Veszpremi is hopefully healing then i would imagine that that he would have less chance of regaining his spot with Vesz in the teamComment

Kicking is soooooooooo over rated for forwards anyway.
Not sure if this includes the weekends game, but Playfair is averaging 0.4 tackles per game whilst Davis is averaging 1.2 for the season. Interestingly Henry and Nick both have 4 tackles for this season with Henry having played the 7 games and Nick the 3... 3 of those tackles by Henry seem to have come from the 1 game, so for 5 out of 7 games he hasn't been credited with a tackle.
That said, I realize they play different roles in the forward line.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

"Okay Henry, first we'll set the bar really low - you just have to kick set shots better than ROK or Jude. If you miss me in the coaches' box we'll take that as a plus. Then we raise the standard and you have to kick better than Baz or Magic on their off days. The ultimate goal is to kick set shots as well as Nicky D when he's on song."
He managed a bit of Magic with his goal yesterday. The ideal will be when he can run in while being chased and kick the way Willo could do.Comment

I don't think Davo was, you know.... commited... he, you know, says he's hungry... but... you know, I mean I didn't see it, but I hear... you know, at least they reckon, he said he's hungry then, you know... only ate half his banana bread... and, I mean... yeah.... we need better commitment... you know??"

Those saying they'd take Davis over Playfair don't accept that Playfair is our future and right now Davis is our past. How many of our recent wins would you be prepared to trade for the joy of seeing No 2 out on the field again? Personally, I wouldn't trade one - I like winning six in a row (and would love to see it become 7 . . then 8 . . .etc) but seeing a firing Davis producing magic for us again would be pure joy.
People are forgetting that Playfair is 25! He's not a kid that we've got to work with. His kicking was woeful when he started 5 years ago. His kicking is still woeful now and it will still be in another 5 years. Where's he going to improve? Surely what he's doing at the moment, doesn't warrant a long-term spot.Bloods
