A standard AFL contract probably runs from a set date - i.e. October 31. Out of contract simply means he is coming out of contract for the next season.

The swans website is saying that no request has been made for ROK to leave the club. negotiations continuing.

I think we should trade O'Keefe given everyone is raving about him and he is overrated (very good but no superstar). As I said before, he's not really a midfielder, not really a forward, which makes him good but not great.

In 23 games this season, he had:
            * 7 games where his disposal effectiveness was 59% or less
            * 8 games where he had <15 disposals (incl 2 in the above category)
            * Only 5 games >20 possessions and on only one of those occasions did he manage better than 66% disposal effectiveness
            * Kicked 23 goals, 26 behinds (47% accuracy)
            * Only twice kicked more than 2 goals in a game (3 goals both times)
            * On 9 occasions he failed to kick a goal and in 6 of those he kicked at least one behind
            * His accuracy was 50% or worse on 13 occasions
            * He did not take a contested mark on 11 occasions

There are plenty of positives for him, which is what makes him a very good player and highly regarded, but I think some of the views are a bit over the top and we should take advantage of that if we can.

Didn't his last contract renewal at the end of 2005 (IIRC) whip up a similar frenzy?

The Media must be slipping - usually when any player is in contract negotiations they start a rumour about the Swans wanting them.

Yep. Where there's whacky tobaccy smoke there's Capper.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I hope this is about getting a better contract with the Swans and that he doesn't actually want to leave. He's a great player and we don't have too many of them at the moment.

If he's not serious, his manager had better be careful.
If he's staying, we can't afford to have him sit in the ressies for a year ala Davo.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I dislike trade week as it is a roller coaster of emotions.
Hopefully the Swans recruitment team can deliver me with a nice birthday pressie next week....a decent midfielder and a good BIG defender would suit me just fine

The Swans offered ROK a 3 year contract and he turned it down, and he is having talks with carlton and collingwood this week.

If they want to keep him offer him the captaincy and play him at CHF.

I would be really disappointed if he left but if he wants to go then we might as well try and get what ever we can for him.IMO we should take a 1st round pick nothing less.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but as usual the media have got it wrong. Pebbles actually followed the team his uncle played for - the mighty maroons!! And that is fact - he told me himself
