I think you're right. The Swans will now do their own testing of the market during the trade period.

I don't think he is only interested in the money, however if he is to be perfectly honest I understand a guy trying to get more dollars out of what is probably the big payday of his career.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

It's more the way he has gone about it that has to be questioned.

I know what you mean, but I imagine that's mainly due to him signing up with a management team part way through. If he had a manager then all this would have been getting played out from the start.

The footy club can cry poor on this, but they were more than happy to negotiate with a guy directly who didn't have a manager and probably had no idea of his worth on the open market. If he negotiated the last contract himself too I'd dare say they got him a bit on the cheap then as well.

Loathe as we all are to see them, Ryan's in just about the perfect position for a backended contract too; if his request really is just for 600k per season and we don't want to pay it for salary cap reasons then give him 2 * 400 + 1 * 800 when he moves onto the veterans list (Liz, is that all above board? I'm assuming we have retirements from at least 1 member of the current veterans list if there are limited spaces).

Yeh, the subtext to me is that Roos has cut him loose already - you never know the whole story but sounds like both parties are being a bit bloody-minded to me.

                Part way through??????

A bloke in the leadership group gives a verbal agreement to a deal and 48 odd hours later walks away from it............... that's not partway through. Clubs have a nightmare juggling the SC and would've locked in various strategies based on that deal. They now have to go back and rejig the show.
I can understand why Roos has a very sour taste in his mouth.

Thats his choice surely, nothing to do with the club. He's a big boy and to suggest he is naive in how the whole show works............ is well............. naive.

The offer the Swans made to him doesn't indicate he's been short changed either.

I am leaning that way as well now, reckon his management company has got it wrong.

I can't see any team paying over $500,000 a year for a HFF, no matter how good he is. Add to that he is 27yo and the original Swans offer of $450,000 a year for 3 years was really spot on.

It's looking more certain that tonight he will sit down with Roos, apologise for the way it's been handled and accept the offer from us that is on the table.

Oh my lawd. We are up to page 28 on the subject of someone wanting to leave us, and its all about money, probably for the first time in our recent memories.

I guess we are not used to anyone wanting to leave us. At least not in the last eight years or so. Everyone has wanted to join us.

Should be interesting a the B&F tonight. There has to be a bit of strain in the air.

I'm all for players seeking a big payday but ROK has handled this badly. Even if he remains with the club he's really poisoned the well.

If I were Roos I'd be fuming too.

Will be a lot of fun at B&F tonight.

Assuming his agent is getting a healthy %, this means he'll get paid less than he was offered earlier or the Swans will pay more (which will wind up with his agent). I can't see either approach being particularly acceptable to both parties.

If ROK signs the deal previously brokered with the Swans I'd reckon the agent will get 0
