Great effort by Macca and well done to Kirky.
He had a breakout year and hopefully become an elite player which will make a few on here eat their words.
Great effort by Paul Bevan as well, shows what he means to our team and whether people like it or not Connollys opinion on him is valid and correct.
He is one of our most imoportant players in our club now and will further develop over the coming years.
Suprised with Teddys performance though.Est 1874

......and Darren Jolly's wife is due in a couple of weeks (another girl he told me), Crouchie was pretty smashed on the dancefloor but certainly having fun, just like every other year, but the new kings of the Gen Y boppers are Jesse White and Matt O'Dwyer who took to the floor at the end clenching red roses with their teeth, trying to be very Antonio Banderras as they twirled a couple of potential WAGS (the poor girls didn't quite know what hit them) to within an inch of their long skinny legs. Many of the other boys were looking on with much amusement but it looked like these 2 enjoyed being in the limelight. Then someone, I think it was Jesse, took to the vacant microphone for a spot of rapping (is that what you call making drum noises?? I dunno...) so if he fails on the field, the stage beckons. Night over, I walked passed a very bemused looking Stuey who looked at me with rolling eyes and we both shook our heads and declared being confounded by the young people of today!!
A great nightPatterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.Comment

Adam goods is our best player. Our only genuine superstar.
He breaks the lines and can win a game with his brilliance. With his groin injury went any real glimmer of hope for a GF appearance.
Paul Roos rules the football department. He is a lot stronger individual behind closed doors than on camera. It is ironic that his initials are PR. What he says goes. If he says to the dept that we need to see X Y and Z re giving B&F votes, they all fall into line.
Paul Roos, for better or worse, clearly has his favourites, and judges certain players very harshly. Maybe it's in part the 'effort' factor.
37 and 2 come to mind immediately when I think of players who are judged harshly by Roos."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

You have to be kidding. I mean yes, fair enough, there's no doubt Roos has a lot of influence and all that, but in regards to Goodes? Goodes has won two Skiltons under Roos. Roos frequently refers to him as our "best player", even though, to be perfectly honest, I think Kirk and O'Keefe are more important to our side, and quite a few would agree. Suggesting that Roos has something against Goodes is simply ridiculous.Comment

Suprised with Teddys performance though. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I tend to think the same applies to Davis, Roos knows what he is capable of, and doesnt accept that he won't/doesn't deliver it."We talked five times. I called him twice, and he called me twice."   :D

I'm not saying I begrudge McVeigh winning but he had some stellar games but some pretty ordinary ones too, and if he came around 4th then I would have said fair enough. I thought Kirk was clearly our best and most consistent.
On Ted, I am not surprised, he played some very loose games and was moved into the forward line in a number of games, not to give the forward line a spark, but to hide him from his errors.
As much as Jude improved this year I can't have him 4th. He wasn't as good as ROK by a long way and Bevan, Jolly and Kennelly were far more effective.Comment

I think Liz has it perfectly right. Roos would be harder on Goodes because he expects so much from him. Effectively his benchmark is higher than others.

I reckon Roos is hard on Goodes because of his mental application and the fact that he is so talented he sees him as wasting a season, and he has got every right to feel that way being someone who never wavered from the match day discipline for all of his 300+ games. As a coach it must be very frustrating to observe this. If Goodes had his head right over the last couple of seasons he would have had a chance of 4 Brownlows.Comment
