The SCG is a decrepid concrete jungle held together with barbed wire, just like the MCG was 10 years ago. I'm outa the Brewongle and into the Trumper - that will have modern facities like ANZ.
Whilst the MCG has been re-built magnificently with it's traditions maintained, the SCG lags decades behind.
Nothing will ever diminish the memories. The old fogies were whining about the MCG Members being knocked down too... until they got their fantastic new facilities. Now they're as happy as a pig at full forward."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

I think you've got you're venues confused. That final against the Weagles in the pouring rain was at Homebush. And the atmosphere at the Roos final this year was brilliant, even though there was just over 19,000 there.
As for the SCG, the only tradition associated with the Members and Ladies stands is a kind of retro-snobbishness and elitism."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

The final I recall was the first final in 1996 (after Plugger kicked the point}....we got robbed of our seats and wound up standing in the pouring rain sharing a bottle of Glen Fiddich . Great night.Comment

Two different games. One in 1996 - one of the most awesome games ever and one that saw the birth of the "Syyyd-ney" chant. And then a fairly mediocre game in 2004, where the Wiggles played as if they were more concerned with messing up their hairdos than playing a game of finals footy.Comment

Wasnt a Final as you stated it was Round 22 1996 and it was a ripper watching it at the pub in Melbourne. You better lay off the gear dude !Est 1874

i thought it was a final because we got robbed of our usual seats in the O'Reilly....the stand was taken over by the Weagles.....a time when it used to cost about $15 for a walk up start. Before we were forced into "reserved" seating....it certainly was different paying $6 to crossover to O'Reilly......and then pick your seat according to when you turned up......many people wandered around talking to mates and shifting about from game to game....a relaxed afternoon in the sun sucking cold ones. Success has brought the Great Rip Off that the Club is now foisting on its loyal members.Comment

We presently sit on the concourse, in front of the O'Reilly Stand. I recall last year our family membership was around $580 (I think). This year it is $970. We expected an increase, but 80% defies belief. Our seats (without rain cover, access to the grandstand bars, and the most difficult to get to and exit from) are now rated as the equivalent of gold seats in the Bradman and Trumper stands. What a joke.
If this is how the Swans acknowledge the current economic climate, and how they intend to shore up the membership against West Sydney, then I'm at a loss to explain their logic. Colless' blathering at the start of the very glossy and no doubt ridiculously expensive membership brochure is so removed from our reality as to be a bad joke.
We have been loyal members for over ten years, but we (and another family alongside us) are now lost to the Swans. The cyncism the Swans have shown in only having two bays in the entire ground priced comparatively to last year's concourse price has irretrievably broken our bond with the club. Clearly not all previous concourse holders can access that price structure, so people are coerced to pay a huge premium compared to last year, or not renew.
Even family ticket holders in the new silver zone are up for an additional 40%.
If your cost has fallen, then you are very much in the minority. Good luck to the team for 2009, but the club has broken our hearts and we won't be there with them next year.Comment

There will be changes in membership amoungst many next year and for many reasons - the "unholy trinity" included. It doesnt mean that our love for the Swans has diminished, it just means that peoples priorities if life change as life goes on. No one should be made to feel as though they are abandoning the club just because of they choose not to renew membership. You dont know the reasonings behind it, nor have you the right to judge - and at the end of the day - its only footy.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

The SCG couldn't rip them down even if they wanted to.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

This doesn't prevent agreement in ripping them down. There would obviously be negotiations etc about what would replace them... but national trust listing is not a guarantee they stay up."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

Also, that would not have been the first final in 1996 if Plugger kicked a point.
It was either week 1 against Hawthorn (which featured the Daryn Cresswell mark and goal from the square), or week 3 against Essendon.
As per an earlier post of mine, there's only a smallish number of people who are complaining:
1) People who now sit in premium stand
2) People who now sit in gold concourse
3) People who used to have season tickets
As their prices have gone up - in the case of season ticket holders, by quite a substantial amount! However in their case, they are also getting access to finals tickets, voting rights and access to functions. Whether or not that is worth the price hike.... is another question.
I don't see a lot of people who are complaining that the same seats they had last year are now suddenly a few dollars cheaper.
However in introducing different levels of seating, that was always inevitable. If you lower some prices, you will have to raise others in order to maintain the same level of revenue. What we don't know yet - is what effect it will have on membership numbers in the groups above.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Bloody hell! Ours are going up too much to afford - looks like we won't be renewingAt least I'll be able to wear my '10 years' pin watching the games on tele
Our seats at the SCG are Platinum. We were moved into them two years ago after they demolished what would have been 'gold' seats for the new scoreboard. Our crappy seats at Homebush are gold. I'm not paying nearly $500 for them. I can't afford that much money right nowMy folks won't be renewing either by the sound of it, so that means my niece and nephew are gone too
I was looking forward to escaping from two babies once a fortnight next year too. Maybe I'll make it to the odd game if I can find somebody who will go with me.
I'm very unhappy with the price hike. I was expecting $20 or so, but this is too much.Life's not a spectator sportComment
