Membership Prices

I've been a member since 97. I had dual AFL membership plus full swans. I eventually organised to get a discount because of my dual membership. With AFL membership, the AFL gives about $100 to the Club you have nominated for support. Swans gave me the discount and I purchased finals tickets based on my AFL membership.
This year they wanted to charge me $460 for my seat in Brewongle. I rang and they said it was a mistake and would continue discount. However I had to ring.
It will be interesting but I think the Swans memberships will drop this year as people just cant afford the hike. I have mine on monthly deduction but now "she who must be obeyed" has re-entered the workforce I don't have to beg as much too continue my membership. In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

I just think the Swans need to be really careful not to price people out, it's one thing for people in this thread to quote Liverpool FC, NFL teams or even Collingwood membership prices, but we are talking about a club that attracted 19 thousand to their last final not a club where demand exceeds capacity.
It's dangerous to throw price rises in peoples faces when you have just had a year where all games had cheap seats available on the day of each match, there were no issues buying a ticket for a home final and Premiership Club payments were effectively a donation to the club, throw in an "economic crisis" and I can't see how families or anyone with substantial responsibilities are going to rush to renew.Comment

Spot on. The confirmation that the club avoided the financial issue with the "focus" group says it all. On one hand management tries to portray itself as a responsive mob to fan needs but this facile rubbish....its time to stop the printing and cut back the rip off. Most people would accept the need for a cost increase every year in line with CPI but not this ripoff. Only stooges and those with money to burn would argue in management's favour. Its insulting to demean someone of 18 years standing saying they will go to the Blacktown based doomed project. NO VOTE, NO KICK....JUST GIVE US YOUR MONEY . Management are just unrepresentative grubs.Comment

You want to look at the other Sydney side you said
West Sydney is calling you, so on ya bike.
18 years and its got a tad expesive for you.
Petrol has got expensive, Food has , everyday living has.
I bet you still pay your bills though and buy the sound of you that would be of some seroius concern around the dinner table as well
It has to be done though.
A member for 18 years you say , so you must enjoy going to the footy.
One thing that gives you enjoyment, gets you away from the norm from everyday life and you complain. Gets a little expensive and you cant sit with your buddies in your little spot and its all to hard and after 18 years it might be time to look at the other team.
Enough said.Est 1874

We only vote for two members of the board...a minority...This club has never entertained a common franchaise for its members. This is a token vote in response to criticism of the club during the "choose Roos" campaign.Except for Paul Kelly and one other the remainder of the board are appointees.....they do not face election. In my view they are merely a business oligarchy no matter how sincere they are about the game we love.
Unfortunately for your voting rights rant, and tendancy to bring this into any topic, there doesn't see too be too much concern about the voting situation at present. Most would acknowledge that having at least some vote is a step in the right direction for a unique club in a unique market.
I used to think that full voting was the way to go, but don't want 'average Joes' running my football club thanks.
I'll go for seriously qualified people in business, maketing, finance, etc who actually know what they are doing when it comes to running a $30m+ enterprise - even if they are majority appointed.
Finally, let's not forget that it's the executive management team that really makes the day to day decisions, and they go through competitive job interview processes. Or do you want a vote on that as well?
So you can now take your voting rant to a relevent thread.Last edited by Bear; 8 November 2008, 09:39 AM."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. I think we're all well aware that we only vote for two members. Most of us are also probably aware that Paul Kelly lasted about 5 minutes on the board, basically because - like most - he underestimated the skills required to be there... We now have a better ex-player choice (appointed) in Jason Ball, who is much more aware of the financial and legal issues involved due to his business background.

As for Paul Kelly not finding the job his cup of tea, well he does have the distinction of at least having the confidence of the membership......something lacking of most if not all of the present board. Not game to test it! Why not take the plunge.....the membership might be mugs enough to vote them all back....why did Paul Kelly leave????Comment

Paul Kelly came to the Board and stayed with it as long as he could but the bottom line is he has a property in WAGGA WAGGA, in the middle of a drought, five kids, etc etc. WW is a long way from Sydney. The Board is hard work, and must be run along the lines of a professional business. Jason Ball has a background (and a foreground come to think of it) in Finance, and that looks to me to be more practical for a board member to have. I doubt us plebs would have the financial and business acumen to make much sense of running a business this size. And to have to do this on a voluntary basis, and have enough backup from your own business to allow you to put time into the Board at the Swans! No, not for me. No matter how many of you beg me to. I am much too lazy.
As for price increases, its hard and unfair, and I used to be able to buy petrol for 35 cents! I live on less now than I did fifteen years ago. I'll keep going, 'cos I love it. However I can no longer afford to go to any events. And that will hurt a lot.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

That's still not "generally winning". Even if one only counts Roos' tenure the percentage of games won is still under 50%.10100111001 ;-)Comment

Re: Membership Prices
We presently sit on the concourse, in front of the O'Reilly Stand. I recall last year our family membership was around $580 (I think). This year it is $970. We expected an increase, but 80% defies belief. Our seats (without rain cover, access to the grandstand bars, and the most difficult to get to and exit from) are now rated as the equivalent of gold seats in the Bradman and Trumper stands. What a joke.
If this is how the Swans acknowledge the current economic climate, and how they intend to shore up the membership against West Sydney, then I'm at a loss to explain their logic. Colless' blathering at the start of the very glossy and no doubt ridiculously expensive membership brochure is so removed from our reality as to be a bad joke.
We have been loyal members for over ten years, but we (and another family alongside us) are now lost to the Swans. The cyncism the Swans have shown in only having two bays in the entire ground priced comparatively to last year's concourse price has irretrievably broken our bond with the club. Clearly not all previous concourse holders can access that price structure, so people are coerced to pay a huge premium compared to last year, or not renew.
Even family ticket holders in the new silver zone are up for an additional 40%.
If your cost has fallen, then you are very much in the minority. Good luck to the team for 2009, but the club has broken our hearts and we won't be there with them next year.Comment

I also find the Premiership club thing a joke and just a donation to the club that is why I only did it for 1 year (and the gift was a decent scarf that year).
I know that this is a fanciful idea however, but for those who choose premiership club and pay that extra safe in the knowledge that they will get GF tickets, perhaps, in the event that the team doesnt make the GF, the club could refund half (and go towards the next years memebership) that would create a small bit of good will. They would still make money on it. Forget the gimmicks such as back packs - and who could forget that state of the art radio that didnt work (that was $80 well spent!). Get back to basics. Do people really want yet another cap??? I know I dont.
the brochure would have cost a fortune to produce, geez its footy not a BHP prospectus!!!I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
