Makes sense, for "gold seats", you would be hoping for more than a seat that is open to the elements.

Wow - how good is that!

We will say it - thank you Myles, club, membership, whoever it was who took it all on board and fixed things up!

            Wow.

Gee, wow. That is really great.

I think we'll be back in the fold now - and I'm sure the people who have cancelled so far can reverse their decision now.

Happy days and great to see common sense prevail! Yippee!

With a few years of conferencing and event management in my background (but nothing on the scale of this type of coordination exercise), the magnitude of the task to change tack in this way cannot be understated (hence my earlier expectation that it would be too difficult to unscramble the egg).

On that basis, hats off big time to the club - we love you again!

AFL froze memberships - Swans continue ripoff

Its a laugh reading the above "joyous" comments....a bit of the old divide and rule play has come out but still the memberships go up.....no concessions to loyalty in their response.... couple of grudging concessions in the face of continued backlash. I've already asked the club to freeze prices but I have not had any answer from them. The AFL has led the way and could prevail over the board if they want to (see club constitution - "transitional member" has one the one and only vote). I suspect that they won't do this washing their hands of the matter whilst appearing to do the right thing.....freezing prices of AFL members.
My Kiwi rugby convert has decided to walk away from the club and spend the money on a big new TV.
The Baron and his mates are on the backfoot....the five page email and the latest blurb....the pressure is on...and there is a bit of face saving going on whilst minimal change to their rip off continues. Its still the same deal.

It is a significant concession regarding the gold concourse seats, but on closer reading, former family season ticket holders are still being slugged.

Single adult concourse seats in the silver zone are still $20 cheaper. Platinums are still getting slugged (and obviously there is a bit of "fend for yourselves" reasoning there), but for us to retain our (now silver) seats, it is still $180 (versus $380 when they were gold) more for the season (as we were season ticket holders). Of course we'd rather keep that $180 ourselves, but the new structure is undoubtedly an improvement, and probably it is now in the range where we will suck it up and pay. Oh, and we now get the membership key ring and access to the not really wanted member functions post match - worth $180? No, but we like our seats!

What would be fairer still would be to designate the former silver concourse seats as bronze - my initial (and hasty) interpretation of the email was that gold concourse becomes silver, and silver becomes bronze, but unfortunately that isn't happening. Having only two bronze bays is still patently unfair.

If nothing else, the club has at least held true to there being plenty of options! Most are crappy ones, but there are plenty of em!

And yes - I did get joyous too quickly and celebrated prematurely - isn't the first time, probably won't be the last!

The club have made a HUGE concession (money wise) in offering a whole lot heap of gold seats at silver pricing.

You certainly can't, by the sound of it!

This is a big, BIG concession by the club. Not just in terms of revenue from the formerly gold seats, but also in effort and cost involved in organising that change logistically.

Let's have a look at the map I did with the colours a while back... Green means your membership price is going down (doesn't include season ticket). Geez, that's a lot of green there.

Prices are ALWAYS going to be going up.. And for such a large proportion of seats to actually go DOWN in price is IMO very promising.

Hell, I'm in the category getting slugged more than the others and I still think it's pretty decent.

... and don't forget if you've gotten in before December 19, the price freezes for next year as well.

                          HUGE, HUGE, HUGE concession.

Call me cynical, but do you think they looked at the comparison between:

Members * Seat price (gold) vs Members * Seat price (silver) and realised their total revenue was likely to be higher using the silver pricing?

I don't think they would have made this change if there was a significant downside to it for them. It seems to me they've realised they can generate more revenue from the lower pricing than they could with higher pricing, hence the decision.

                            I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

                              I don't know about that.
There are a lot more Season ticket holders out there than people would like to admit. Even I was surprised by how many people that I thought were Full members were actually Season ticket holders.

So there is still a fair bit of an increase in price for some.
Can some one remind me how much Concourse Season tickets were last year.
                              I think they were $230 - $240 ?.

Personally I'm over the moon but will be dropping premiership club as I hate not being able to choose the cheaper seats if we get in to the GF.
In 2006 I had a premium seat behind the goals (Punt Rd end) and I could not see the top of the goals ( to see Hally miss )

There is NO huge concession......they dropped seating prices from gold to silver in 10 bays only....a minimal number of seats particularly in front of the O'reilly. You are trying to make it appear as if the ripoff isn't occurring.... tinkering with the edges doesn't alter the fact that its still the same deal.
