Shameless gloating with tangential relevance to the Swans (aka The ex-Swans thread)

Doyle was fine. Particularly worked noticeably hard dropping back in defence. Opponent still got more possessions than him around the ground.
Terlich was completely unsighted for large stretches of the game, but has a fantastic sense of presence and good finishing skill when he does show up.
Flipper was, well, Flipper. As always, missed a couple he should have got. The one he snagged was a ripper though, ball fed out the pack to him, two steps and then bang from a 45 degree angle.
Rowe worked hard, and did some important stuff at times.
Matt Davis is Mr Dependable. Aka Matt Davis.
Centrals have/had 2 Swans, neither of them playing. Andrew Hayes is injured, and Earl Shaw appears to have been struck from their team list, so must have gone somewhere else for 2009. No idea where. Honorary ex-Swan Trent Goodrem also injured.Last edited by SimonH; 8 May 2009, 11:01 PM.Comment

Deadlegs Swans Rejects 8.8 56
Mighty Glenelg Tigers 17.15 117
GLENELG turned up the heat on its SANFL rivals with a commanding 61-point triumph over an insipid Norwood at The Parade last night. The Tigers smashed the disappointing Redlegs in every facet of the game to maintain pressure on competition pacesetter Central District.

You do realise, cruiser, that I could use my magic powers to just pluck this thread from the stream of history, so it never existed?!
But the stupidity involved in starting a thread with the word 'gloating' in the title after round 1, deserves the punishment it's getting.
Worth noting that very reliable ex-Swan defender Matt Davis badly broke his leg at training last week and the estimate is 10-12 weeks. Get better soon, Matt. We need you. We need anything we can get. Game not on TV so can't report direct observations, but those at the ground said that Terlich committed some of the worst skill errors ever seen on a football field and Phillips is a front-runner. If they hadn't lost the will to live, I'm sure they would have found some mean things to say about Doyle and Rowe as well. It was that sort of night.
Aaron Bruce, unbelievably, missed out on being listed in Eastlake's best players again. Although he did kick 4 goals, and in a 110 point win the competition for the best 6 is always going to be pretty hot.
In addition to those listed in ugg's regular updates, little Willo ran around for Glenelg reserves on Friday. Has played some league this year... but both this and last year, has played a lot of seconds, too. And he's now 23yoa.Comment

The greatest ex-Swan in the whole list (at a stretch, Luffy might be equal) is playing in perhaps the most obscure place.
Daryn Cresswell in Sydney AFL 'Division 1' (in reality, second division) for Manly-Warringah. Most recent match. Sad story in the Tele a few months ago about the personal problems that have befallen him recently. Great that he still hasn't lost his love of the game.
Adam Heuskes playing for the amusingly-named Hornridge in the Woomera & Districts Football League in remote rural SA. And he got a special day out away from the rock-hard ovals, cold nights and hot days when he predictably starred in a rep game against Broken Hill at Footy Park in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago.
Should leave it there for the moment. Could waste a whole day looking up all of the obscure places that ex-Swans now get a kick.
Oh, what the hell, one more (rather more obscure one): Ed Clarke now running around for Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley FL. And is playing well enough to make their rep squad.Comment

Wow, now that is obscure.
Found a few more:- Ben Fixter playing for Albury in the Ovens and Murray.
- Adam Prior playing for Wodonga in the Ovens and Murray (and won their B&F last year).
- Luke Vogels playing for East Ringwood in the Easter Football League.
- Earl Shaw playing beside Luffy at UNSW/ES in the SFL.
- Paul Currie (Dan's brother) playing for Eltham in the Northern Football League.
- Guy Campbell playing for Rochester in the Goulburn Valley Football League.
- Brent Piltz playing for Kirk's old club North Albury in the Ovens and Murray
- Ricky Mott playing for Kukerin/Dumbleyong in the Upper Great Southern Football League (WA)
- Daniel Hunt playing for West Perth in the WAFL.

Thanks for the article on Doyle, I enjoyed reading it and I always think back to his second half of the '06 GF against Cox, helped get us back into the game when Jolly was struggling.
Sad way to finish his AFL career but at least he went out on the big stage!Comment

Don't forget Scooter McGlone who was named Sturt's best in their (yet another) pummelling of Norwood. From the radio broadcast, had the pill on a string in the back line and so no surprise to see him get the BOG nod.Comment

Norwood smacked the EAgles by 75 points on Sat. Only their third win for the year. The Eagles had beaten top dogs Centrals the previous week.
Impressive win, though the ex-Swans didn't seem to do a great deal.
That's Taylor Walker, the young Crow, who kicked 9.
Official Site of the Norwood Football Club - The Redlegs

Um, are you sure that's not from last year? Unless Taylor Walker has a clone, it would be a big ask for him to play two games of footy on the weekend?Comment
