I reckon people are harsh on Barlow. He looks an untidy footballer and could benefit from a tighter pair of shorts, but he was much more in the action tonight and fumbled the ball no less than anyone else. He certainly was harder at it and there were a couple of shocker handballs to him that made him look bad.

Craig Bolton had a howler and couldn't hold a mark to save himself.
LRT looked ordinary because the delivery to both Brown and Bradshaw was perfect and there was no pressure on the players upfield. LRT was one who kept having a go.
If Barlow is soft then Malceski is a marshmellow. Opposition sides have worked him out because he is one scared man.
Marty Mattner that one was forgettable for your skill errors.
      Reece Shaw was our best.
Grundy and McVeigh struggled in the wet.
ROK, fair dinkum show a bit of character son. I doubt you have any leadership skills. For a senior player you are just not imposing yourself at all on the game. The body doesn't look the usual hard fit.
J Bolton had one his best games for ages but has little penetration with his disposals.
Bevo - manfull and had a go but doesn't match up well on a bloke like Johnstone.
Crouch was actually playing OK before he did the hammie.
Goodes was obviously crook and he played ok but did some increibaly dumb things. That up in the air handpass at the start of the last Q resulted in a goal to them. Lairising it is best described as.
      Jolly had another top game.
Jessie White is wasted by the coaches. Is a genuine talent and should be used more as a forward option. Doesn't get enough game time for the fit young man he is.
Clearly Hall was injured and maybe should not have been out there. Then again why lead to the pocket all the time.
Kirk did a top job on Black and got crucified by the umps. Got jumped on continuosly yet no frees.
Bird and Meredith showed their obvious talent but also their inexperience.
Moore to me was disappointing. He missed two absolute sitters on the run and must be the worst finisher in the comp on the run. As a midfielder he doesn't impose himself on the game at all and is at that stage of his career where he has to do more. His fumbles tonight were top of the class.
Jack was one of our best. Thought he worked really hard.

Overall pretty ordinary stuff and we were killed for pace and once again we were slaughtered out of the centre. Brisbane just wanted it more and were consistently first to the ball all night.

Totti, the young guys have been playing footy for probably 15 years. They all have been taught and know how to play wet weather footy. Some are just not good at it. If there is one place that it rains a bit on game day it is Brisbane. Most of the time in the last 12 years players have been playing on good tracks. Our skills seem to disappear on wet days.

I genuinely think some of our blokes don't like getting their hair wet. We had a lot of clean shorts walking off after the game. Jude was about the only one with a dirty jumper.

As the Fox Footy commentators said and they were correct; that we were not interested after about 10 minutes.

I think the coaches have a lot to blame for how we played tonight and how we set up. It all seemed to be tag and be negative all night. McVeigh to Johnstone to the back pocket was to me a sign of "we can't win". They allowed Brisbane to have at least 2 players free across half back all night which was smart by Voss because on wet nights kicks don't go as far. Where were our players and why have no one running into the forward corridor. Instead it was via the boundary.

            Poor effort Swans.

Apart from Jolly and a few others, it was hardly an inspiring effort from most of the side unless the wet weather really had an impact.

I dunno if LRT can handle someone like Fev next week after his performances against Brown and Bradshaw...
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

              Lions used the ball cleanly.
              Swans fumbled alot.
Our backs and forwards played from behind.
I will never watch another game at Club Swans.

I don't blame LRT - he kept on having a go, had to contend with good delivery to Brown and Bradshaw, was treated outrageously by the umps on several occasions, didn't drop intensity. Wish I could say the same about some of the others.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

What a shocking spectable that excuse for a game of footy was.Looking at the starts we don't look that bad but when you disect them you can see why we played such an ugly game. (eg Bird had 20 disposals, sounds good until you read on and see that 5 of these disposals were clangers. He was not on his own and at least he tried hard to get the ball.)
Rok got a heap of possies in junk time......one wonders what's going on with him.
I couldn't understand why we didn't follow Brisbanes game and kick long bombs into the forward line.
We will learn alot from last night and hopefully we won't get many more wet games cause we are obviously crap when it rains.

Michael Voss has learned very quickly. To beat Sydney you simply play with 'hell for leather' intensity-intense tackling, and general 'hard get' physical passion. So long as all or the vast majority of your 22 players follow those instructions, and you add a bit of forward class, (a la Jonathon Brown and Daniel Bradshaw), you should win. Mick Malthouse has known about this tactic for years with Collingwood, and in round 1 this year we saw Ross Lyon adopt the same tactic with St Kilda.

I wouldnt be too hard on LRT. Sure, he had a dissappointingly bad game (and embarassed me with my premature B&F prediction) after good games against the Saints and Hawks, but even good footballers get beaten against quality opposition, and Brown and Bradshaw are a top quality forward duo.

Goodes vomitting before the 4th qrtr may have been a sign that he wasn't 100%. Hall did well and I'm sure he wasn't 100% either.

ROK needs a damn good talking to and threatened with the 2's. Simply not good enough for a footballer on his contract.

If we'd converted a few missed shots during that critical period at the end of the 3rd and start of the 4th it could have changed the momentum of the game and the final result. But as the old saying goes, bad kicking is bad football.

Most encouraging was the performances of White and Meredith. Welcome to the team. Keep that up and you'll keep your senior spots. Meredith already has one of the best kicks in the AFL.

The umpiring favoured Brisbane. They were getting frees that were there but some were soft, and we seemed to be missing out on some of them. That inconsistency that really pisses me off.

Overall, we were beaten by a better team on the night, a team that played the conditions better than we did. We can turn it around next weekend against Carlton and I'm really looking forward to it.

                        It was pretty frustrating, wasn't it. The frees were usually there, but they did seem to be getting the "technically there" frees pretty consistently. They just seemed to be willing to put their body on the line all night and the umpires were rewarding them- but 2 annoying examples of inconsistency were;
                        1. Jolly taken high, umpire doesn't blow a whistle presumably because he dove into it then Brown is taken high as he dove into a pack at a ruck contest and the umpire blows a whistle.
                        2. The "made an effort" to kick that the commentators harped on about all night, then LRT "made an effort" to kick whilst being kicked and was whistled for incorrect disposal. Both of them should really have been the same result (and the result for LRT was correct).
My other annoying moments were a push in the back called on ROK when the Lions player was already falling over and ROK was just turning back to the ball, and at one stage a Lion handballed up into the air whilst being tackled, caught it and then handballed off again- I'm sure that's incorrect disposal as well?

Buuuuuuuuuuuut wet weather footy always looks ugly and results in odd things like that, I'm sure that a Lions fan would be able to pick out just as many silly things that went Sydney's way.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Pretty much just wipe it and move on to Carlton.

They simply were smarter in the conditions and most importantly 2 major factors. They closed us down and they moved it so well to 2 of the games best forwards who finished the work.

Craig Bolton and LRT were simply beaten thats all.
Brisbanes delivery was first rate most of the night.
Kirky ,while he keep Black quite ,didnt get enough of it.
RYAN OKEEFE : HARDEN THE @@@ UP BOY. Give something, look interested & show some leadership. He aint worth jack at the moment.
Goodsey : Whilst he may of been crook, his weakness showed last night.
When he gets areal hard tag , he just cannot shake them and gets the @@@@s.
Jarred Moore : Gee he annoys me, he could and should be doing alot better . Makes really , really simple mistakes way to many times.
Marty Mattner : Worst game at the club.
Nick Malceski :Like Nico & I said it last week he a scared footballer right now.
                          Darren Jolly : Fantastic again.
Brett Meridith : The kid goes OK. Smart head on young shoulders.
Jesse White : We have found something here, would love to see him play up forward more with more freedom though.

Looking forward to Saturday arvo footy @ SCG.
We can match it with the Blues I rekon.

I'm a little surprised that so many are giving Jolly wraps for his game. He did some good stuff late in the game when it was already gone but I thought that for 3/4 he was pretty much absent around the ground and didn't make his experience/size count in the ruck.

Of the experienced guys, I thought only Shaw and Jude had good games. Oh, and Hall made the most of what came his way.

Bird and Jack looked like they ran themselves ragged, got to lots of contests, and did more positive stuff than they made mistakes (allowing for conditions). Meredith and White gave us cameos but they were encouraging cameos for the future.

When you get little out of Goodes, Kirk, O'Keefe, McVeigh and Malceski, the team is going to struggle to win any games.

As much as I dislike thuggery in footy, I have to admit I was kind of hoping for Jolly to crunch the burger in an early ruck contest. How things have changed
