DRUNK POST.
Just watched a replay...how good are they?!?
Obviously the decision was made at a managerial level to play on at all costs, kick it long and back your teammate.
Watching the game you have to wonder how much of the development of the young brigade had an influence on the decision to play this way.
How many players in the starting lineup were part of the ressies that absolutely DOMINATED the Canberra League 4-5 years ago??? These guys not only know how to win, they know how to dominate. The clearest indication of this (aside from the whole first quarter) was, I think in the 3rd quarter a nothing ball was kicked towards the boundary Jack took posession about 3m from the line. I have seen this scenario I don't know how many times over the past 5 years. A swan takes possession near the line, heading towards the line - retains possession and just trots acrossthe line for a throw in.
Jack props holds the ball at arms length keeping the ball in, steps his man and handballs off the Malcheski coming through - who pumps it long into F50.
There was much talk that players couldn't develop in the Canberra League. I feel we're on the verge of seeing what a dominate team, that develops together is capable of.
I thought Ted was superb against Tredrea. Tredra had 3 shots on goal. All from centre clearence breaks, all kicked suberbly to his lead. Noone, not even Bolton could have done anything about it. Anything that was given air to Tredrea was accompanied by another Swans player - Mattner, Bevan, whoever. Great work. He had a few contested marks up the field too...a few against Tredrea.
Craig Bolton is the only player on the Swans team who cannot be covered for/replaced. He is amazing. If he goes down we are @@@@@@.
Barry Hall is back in form....with an additional special ability! At his peak his contested marking was suspect. Lost count of how many he took on the weekend.
Micky O is a God. Put 6 guys around him he will get the ball. Whether he kicks the goal or not is another question. Looks like 400 is more likely than 300.
O'Keefe...you know what I mean!
Grundy - he's got it. Only problem is he's very inconsistant. He's second efforts aren't great either. Fortunately he's only 23. First time in this game I same some strong numerous KP flashes. (How bout that mark!)
As I said above I thought Crouch was excellent - and allowed Bevan some leeway.
The midfield was great. Bird has the composure of a 200 gamer, and never seems bothered. Bolton, Kirk, Goodes, McVeigh - we all expect something from thewm and they deliver more often than not these days.
It was just a great game to watch....at the end of the 3rd and start of the 4th we took the foot off the throat, but it was good to see it reapplied at the end of the game.
The only person who I didn't think had a great day was Abblett. Whether this was because he has been so ingrained with the older style...I don't know.
Don't normally mention opposition players when reviewing our game, but Chad Cornes was amazing. One of the few players I'd love to see him in Red and White. Seemed to be the only Port player who turned up to play. In the final minutes when J Bolton soccered through his goal - all the other Port players were well beaten long ago, he was standing with his arms out asking his teammates "what the @@@@ are you doing???".
First time this year I've seen the Swans as a threat to the Premiership favorites. (aside from Geelong
)
Cheer, Cheer.
