Maybe he was looking to see if they were replaying his trick shots.

I think 21 players were good and of those most were very good. I'd struggle to think of Ablett's real contribution and we're certainly no worse if he was replaced.

J Bolton was excellent in the midfield, as were McVeigh and Kirk, and Buchanan did some really nice things today.
Jolly and White probably had their best game as a combined ruck duo, and against pretty decent rucks.
Backline was solid and gave good run.
Except for a few periods of huge scrum, it was good to see us move the ball quickly and especially in the corridor.
Port's opposition wasn't much though - they are an amazingly fluctuating side.

Such an even season (except for the top 2), so we should get a good idea where we are at next week.

What I liked about today was that after 2 mid quarters of dominating but wasteful quarters, we kicked 5 in the last quarter and finished the game strongly.

A very good team effort. A few observations:

ROK playing as a defensive midfielder adds a high quality new dimension to the side. His work around the defensive 50 line was tough and hard and many times took the handpass in tight situations. He gives us that highly skilled player who is able to cover heaps of ground and support the defence. He looked as if he was starting on the wing at centre bounces then running to the contest to receive.

Unless it was an abberation, we seemed to have a policy of having midfielders at the fall of ball when delivered to forwards; Moore, McVeigh, Goodes, Buchanan, Kirk and even Jude Bolton.

We seemed to go longer and higher to our 2 key forwards. In the mid quarters a few players deviated from that which took away from our dominance and caused turnovers and wasted opportunities.

The forward line pressure went to another level and the running to contests persistently came back into our game.

We clearly deliberately went through the corridor whenever possible and players were prepared to run off their players to make space. The number of times we had players on their own on the HFF was refreshing to see and you could see players coming through the corridor looking to that position.

I thought Buchanan played a much better team game and at last really worked hard on his defensive game.
Moore also worked hard on his defensive game and although had a couple of selfish shots at goal when he should have passed off, showed real signs of a long term footballer coming of age.
Hats off to Jude Bolton. I think he is in the best form of his career.
MOL is a freak. He could easily have bagged 6 and the spring in his step and sharpness was fantastic. He was prepared to work up the ground and looks fitter than he has ever been. What a bonus.
Jesse White is developing into very good player. Bythe way the mail I got was he had a cracked rib and they decided to play him in the 2's until he was right.
Bevo - top game. He is repeating last year's form where he started poorly and ran into form as the year went on.

Yes I thought Buchanan had a much better game today too, especially as he was one of the players I felt needed to step up. But that was pretty much how I saw it, we went longer than in previous weeks and the forward line pressure was better as well.

Now that game felt good. Firing on all pistons this afternoon! What a great day to spend at the SCG, even the weather was better than I'd anticipated.

These are the Sydney Swans I discovered (along with AFL in general) back in 2005! Whatever Roos put in their water this afternoon, I hope he has an ample supply for the rest of the season!

              Fantastic.

              Two things ...

We increased our half-time lead by four points at full time. We should have beat them by 100. (Listen to me I predicted they'd win by one.)

Can we DNA test Ablett? Is he really an "Ablett".
              Shocking.

Obvious highlight was Reg's mark, although Jesse can feel hard done by. If it wasn't for Reg, we'd be waxing lyrical of his mark.

However, play of the day for me was Shaw putting on the after burners in front of the Brewongle, getting the ball on to Kizza who kicked to space for McVeigh to run onto and kick truly from 40m.

Despite whilst watching the replay tonight I noted the commentators thought Kizza kicked poorly, from my vantage point in the Noble it looked clear to me that he purposely kicked into a gaping paddock in front of McVeigh to run onto.

That whole passage of play had my contingent on our feet applauding. Brilliant stuff.

Hard to pick the best three tonight. I've already watched half of it again, and it's very hard to pick.

                  Good news for a change!!

                      Commentators, pah!

If some of us were a little irritated that last week they didn't know the difference between Jack and Meredith, today one of them got O'Loughlin and Goodes confused. I mean, two of the longest serving current servants of the club, well over 500 games between them and they still can't tell them apart?

I've only watched the first half so far and right now I am scratching my head as to how we only managed to kick 11 goals, so dominant were they. I am putting off watching the third quarter because I know my bepuzzlement is only going to increase.

I'm lovin the form of Jesse White. How good is it to have a tall mobile big bloke, primarily as a backup for Jolly. Provides us with so much more than just a ruck option.

And Annie you must have given up driving by now. It feels so good to be pointing out to the SNDon supporting wife that we have the GOOD McVeigh. It's no coincidence that with Macca playing so well J. Bolton is also in career best form.

Good game today, but the down side is we have large patches of good inexperienced talent right across the ground, (Bird, Moore, Jack, Grundy, White) and because of this will get some inconsistent performances during the year. Hang on to your hats folks, the next 4 games could provide some interesting results.

The dogs will be REALLY tough to beat, hawks at the 'G equally tough then coll, well we all know how we have faired against them recently! %^&%! then I notice we have adelaide in adelaide!
I know every Pies game, I say; "We're due to win against Collingwood"; and every Pies game since 2006 we have gone down. Always disappointing losses. That 6 games and 6 losses. HOWEVER, with Shaw on board, THIS time I REALLY think Sydney can beat Collingwood.

And moving ahead one round to yet another bogie team, I give the Swans a real chance to win for the first since 2004 (and the first time since 2001 in Adelaide) against the Crows.

I don't know about anyone else, but winning against either Adelaide or Collingwood would almost feel like winning a final for me. I hate losing against these two.

I think we have a good fixture of three winnable (as opposed to expect them to win) games coming up now. July looks good too.
