So I said to me lady friends, I know a few you know- they like the Swannies legends...
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Kirky had a right old go on the late sports last night.

          (From the Swans email today):

Hall call hardest of Kirk's career

SYDNEY Swans co-captain Brett Kirk says the decision about Barry Hall?s future at the club is the hardest that he has been involved with.

Hall accepted a two-match suspension on Tuesday morning for striking Adelaide defender Ben Rutten in last weekend?s clash at AAMI Stadium.

Swans coach Paul Roos said on Monday that in striking Adelaide defender Ben Rutten, Hall had behaved like a player ?who doesn?t want to play AFL football?.

Kirk said the Swans? leadership group would meet later in the week to discuss Hall?s actions. Roos, football manager Andrew Ireland and chairman Richard Colless will also be involved.

?I think as a club as a whole, we care about Barry, we support him but we?re saying it?s unacceptable,? he said before training on Wednesday.

?What?s happened is unacceptable and he needs to take personal responsibility for the behaviour. It?s something that we?ve got to work through with him."

My main concern with the leadership group being involved in this decision is that it has potential to tear them apart.
Dissension amongst players is far worse than disagreeing with a clubs decision.

It is sad to see the media play such a prolific role in all of this, but expected.

It is surprising to see so many RWOers get caught up in it all and jump on their moral high horses rather than stay loyal to someone who has been a loyal and prolific Swan.

Possibly Hall is being used by many as an outlet for their frustration over a very average year by the Swans.

                Well said CTS

yeah as I said previously - Hall has done a hell of a lot of good things for the club and he was loved for it.

a good point about the leadership group as well - is it effective or are there signs of it becoming divisive?

The bloke gave away a few dubious free kicks and half had a go at a bloke who had a go at him. Watch enough football and you'll see others do the same thing most weeks. Rick Springfield and Kirky are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

He is being very well paid to do the right thing, when he does the wrong thing by his employer he should answer to them. Agreed it shouldn't be aired publicly.

For mine, he has not lived up to his own comments in his column, "teams can try to niggle me as much as they want, I won't give them the satisfaction of taking the bait" (obviously paraphrased, but I have read all his columns this year and it seems obvious now that he is just rattling off cliches).
It is sad really. No one is going to be happy with the outcome.

All of this is horrible. I am so disappointed. But the reason we are all bluing is because Barry Hall cocked an elbow and closed a fist and then moved said fist in a downward motion. The bottom line is there is noone to blame but Barry. I didn't do it. You didn't do it. Kirky didn't do it. I love the man but enough is enough.

And what about Rutten who elbowed him in the chest in the first place ? I'm sure that hit didnt exactly tickle. Hall is proded, pinched, held & roughed up by, in some instances, three opponents at once - yet they can do what ever they like to him, and Umps fall for it - but Hall has no recourse. Yes there are times where the call against Hall is warranted but most of the time its not. I dont know about anyone else, but if I had to put up with that week in and week out I'd belt someone around the chops too.
But its the public hanging by the club that really gets to me the most. You could see it coming, the snide passing remarks from Roos & Kirk - who will be next I wonder.
Anyway there will be those of who agree with what the club is doing and those who wont. No one is going to win here.

I'm not going to get involved in the debating that has been going on in comments previous to mine, all I am going to say is I am keen to see how we play with Hall out of the side, I dont think we play too badly to be honest, we usually have a lot more goals from our midfielders. I just feel that without Hall there, our midfielders will take that shot at goal from 45- 55 metres out, whether it be on the run or set shot. Granted Hall has been playing well, and as I've said before in other threads, I'd rather him out there playing than on the side lines, but I am just curious to see how we go in the next couple of weeks. Also, as has been mentioned before, wouldn't mind seeing Goodesy play permanent full forward for a whole game, just to have a see what comes of it.

Primmy is right also. He knows he's going to get it, he knows he's got a target the size of the Luna Park face on him so he's the one that has to control himself.

I love the big fella and the game shall be poorer without him, but I'm in the "He's had enough chances" camp and I think the end is nigh and I don't think either Roos or Kirk has spoken out of line.

Jewels - No probs with your comment thats for sure, both arguments are valid and yes he knows he's going to get it - the thing that annoys me the most is the way the Swans hang those they want to dispose of out to dry publicly. And the media making the mountain bigger than molehill it actually is. There are other players from other clubs in the back line who do some truly nasty things - yet get away with it - as I said no one is going to win here - but I will miss him - at least he has character.
