After the Staker incident all Barry had to do was to not hit anyone during a game of football, not alot to ask by normal standards. Approximately 350 other players in the AFL manage to do this every weekend.

He couldn't help himself and he has paid the consequences.

There is only 1 person at fault here and it isn't the media, the umpires, Paul Roos, or even Brett Kirk.

It's hard to understand all the bleating about how poor little Barry was so hard done by.

I will remember him for all of the good he did, but its time to cut him lose

This is kind of the way I'm looking at it. I'd have preferred for him to play on unytil the end of the season. Then we'd stillhad had our focal point in the forward line until the season's end. And the club could simply have chosen to not renew his contract.

But I know as a fact the club is largely run by the marketing department. With the Swans image is EVERYTHING. Any more Hall misdemenours would have started looking bad for the Swans brand as a whole. Would have damaged the cred of AFL as well in a fragile Sydney market.

The sad thing is that he was by far or best forward in Adelaide & had Rutton beaten.

But life goes on. And we get a chance to look at our options for the future a little earlier than expected.

in the end it is a correct decision, there is no guarantee that he would have lost his cool again had he decided to play out the season.

And Roos met with the Oily One late last week. Did they discuss Hall? Bets please gentlemen.

True. I suppose the best we can do is put you on the 'ignore' list.

are you seriously suggesting that Hall was sacked on the request of Andrew Demetriou?

Where do you fit in with post # 108?

No. But they had a say in it. Are you seriously suggesting that Roos didn't discuss it with the Sun King late last week. I've already said that there is another agenda. Which will become obvious at the end of the season. Roos, Dick and Vlad would have engaged in a stategy meeting and discussed how to manage it in the media. The AFL owns this club in more ways than one.

The lack of protection he consistently received from the umpires was the third element in the explosive mix. Significantly the three inciters were also niggle cowards when they played. A pack of grubs.

He has done the right thing here. He realises that he isn't really an asset anymore, given he spends as much time suspended as that sniper Daniel Kerr. Hall retiring means we can move forward.

Well done to him on a great career, and an even bigger well done on leaving at the right time.

Interesting spin mate. My view is that this has not been driven by the media - the Swans are expert at manipulating the media. Trotting out the leadership group over the past fortnight smacks of prepping everyone for todays announcement.

He would even be an asset for my mob - although he may snap Hale in half in the first training match they would play!

Just saw the interview and he looked almost relieved. He is a big boy and BB has never been pushed by anyone. He has made his decision after due consideration and he knows he has a problem which at this stage of his life he cannot control. His resignation is done with dignity, as always, and I applaud him. I hate to see him go. But I respect him.
