"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''. -
I can smell the incense. I had to look up the meaning of dignity. It means the state of honour or worthy of respect. No respect or honour was shown to Hall by Roos or Kirk. They went public with comments that demeaned a great footballer. I was simply pointing out the obvious fact that this year is an implosion. We have lost a key player who simply walked out on his contract. And the club did nothing to enforce its contract. And we have a great player who is squeezed out in a very humiliating fashion allegedly for the reason that he breached the rules of the competition. The rejection by a club for the misdemeanors of Hall is the heaviest penalty ever imposed by a club on a player for that type and degree of offense. I don't know of any club where this combination of support for disloyalty and rejection of a loyal player has occured. I'm sorry to see Barry leave the club like this. He has genuine talent, and I thought from a pure football perspective that he still had a lot to offer us this year and next. But unfortunately, he has a real problem controlling himself under pressure. This is the second consecutive year his temper has significantly disrupted our season. It couldn't go on, and he's made the right decision.
I wish him all the best for the future, and thank him for the role he played as part of our premiership team.Comment

He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Agree whole heartedly. It's been a shameful performance by Roos and co. The hypocrisy of the forced hug at the press conference, after the public humiliation the club has put him through, infuriated me beyond belief. I just hope the media dont put the boots in...
As there is always a massive overeation from them.
Hope they pay tribute to what he accomplished and what he brought to the club and vice versa...
No matter what they say eh will always be a premiership captain....which is more than what most of those hacks will ever achieve.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

After the Staker incident all Barry had to do was to not hit anyone during a game of football, not alot to ask by normal standards. Approximately 350 other players in the AFL manage to do this every weekend.
He couldn't help himself and he has paid the consequences.
There is only 1 person at fault here and it isn't the media, the umpires, Paul Roos, or even Brett Kirk.
It's hard to understand all the bleating about how poor little Barry was so hard done by.
I will remember him for all of the good he did, but its time to cut him losePatterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.Comment

For mine Barry has had another brain snap. I agree with most of the posts that the club has handled the Hall ? Rutten incident disgracefully, but don?t fall in with the tap on the shoulder theorists.
Barry should have sucked it up and waited till the end of the year to part ways. It was his decision to end it now, not the club and certainly not the coach. In the end Barry thought it was best to call it quits, i disagree that he had to go now but respect the honesty of the bloke.
Barry Hall, thank you for everything you have given to the club. You will forever be remembered as a champion footballer by those who care most about the club.Comment

I think he's made the right decision and I admire him for it. He was very frank in the press conference and he admits the problem he has with on field indiscretions could indeed replicate in real world scenarios and therefore needs to be worked on.
Unless this 4-6 month lay off works wonders for his issues and rejuvenates him, I don't see him playing with any other club and I don't think he'd want to front up against his fellow brothers anyway. I wish we could see him go around just 2 more times: once in Mick's 300th and another at the SCG.
But as Cheer Squad rightfully noted, this is the 2nd season in a row where his actions have cost the side crucial momentum and it's very disappointing to see a veteran footballer consistently make the same mistakes.
I wish him all the best. I reckon he was about 75-100 goals off his potential and has been on and off since the 2006 finals series. You could probably add another 75 to that for all the free kicks he's never received by the maggots. Could've easily been an 800+ goal career. It's a shame because I felt he had so much to offer for the rest of this year and next in setting up the club for the next 5 or so years..
Still, to average just under 3 goals a game with the Swans is a great effort and he should be applauded for that.
What I will say though is how appalled I am with the way Paul Roos and Brett Kirk handled this whole thing. Some of the quotes from the two against a club veteran and a close mate are just despicable and didn't need to be aired out to the media and fans. The bloods ethos (both on and off the field) has definately fallen by the wayside since about mid 2007 imo.
On one hand I'm agitated that BBBH has been made a villain somewhat but on the other I understand it probably was the right decision, no matter how hard the pill is to swallow that he wont play for us again..
Gonna miss ya big fella. I just wish you controlled yourself on the fieldComment

Agree with most if your post on how great barry has been.
I think Roos and Kirk have been unfairly criticised a bit the media have chopped up their press conferences in order to get a sensational heading and not really fairly representing their comments. Roos especially i listened to his press conference the monday after the incident and he was genuinely concerned for barry and wanted whats best for him
Its sad that it has happened this way because Hall has been a champion of our club but it was his decision and i think we would have kept him had he not decided to go.Comment

One of the major reasons the Swans have been so successful over the last 7 seasons has been their commitment to playing as a team. A champion team will always beat a team of champions. Hall has put himself outside the team and become a liability on the field.
Hall has, unfortunately, brought all this on himself. As Roosey said " I am sick of fronting press conferences and talking about Barry Hall". I agree with that.
Hall just had to settle down and play football, but he can't do that. It's a very sad ending. Going to another club is not the answer. Hall just can't control himself. His self-discipline is pathetic.
Most of his antics have been cheap shots that demean the man and his talent. Why should the coach and the team have to put up with his selfishness?
I love the guy and will be forever grateful to his 2005 contribution. Let's focus on the good times and leave Hall to sort out his problems somewhere else. I refer you to Bobby Skilton's comments."First understand, then criticize; not the other way round!"Comment

MOL is the only player who has come out publicly and backed Hall - the others probably too scared of the leadership group to express their own opinion.
I'm sure he will have an ally in Eades, afterall, if there is anyone who know's how it feels to be pushed out of the club by Colless & Co (and dont think for a second that Roos was an innocent bystander during that episode) then Eade is Bazza's man.
Good luck Baz am looking forward to the book.Last edited by Wardy; 8 July 2009, 08:26 AM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
