He is fantastic.........can't see him ever being let go. I would love him, especially with the Dreads. But he is in the realms of daydreams..along with Naitanui. ( I watch his first 3 goals in AFL footy on YouTube everyday.)

Sart tanking now and get a decent draft pick for next year, find a kid who looks like he might stand up aand grabbo. The market is going to be thin

Yes and no. Usually the first option is to try and do a trade - the players club still has a right to get something in return. (Which I actually think is an anomaly within the system). If a player has 4 years left on a contract then the club can expect more in return than for a player with 0 years.

If an agreement can't be made then the player has the right to put a price on his head in the pre-season draft (eg. $600k a year for 4 years) knowing that only the club of his choice can afford him.

So, in the Pav case, we'd never offer anything near enough during Trade Week (arguably don't have any players worth as much as him and draft picks are worth gold over the next few years). We'd need to offer him something similar to the above example.

And THIS is the sole reason that the salary cap room gives us some options. The Pre-Season Draft.
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .

Don't think there's any point in spending the money next year. Develop what we've got for a year....try to get the majority of the list (that's worth it) up to 50 games - then spend the cash at the end of 2010 - when we have a much better idea of what we've got, and what we need.

Think about the guys with promise who haven't even played a game yet.

            Currie, DOK, Murphy, et al.

Sure, but we hardly need another mid-sized defender.

I wouldn't mind getting Ryan Murphy at all. Even if/when Johnston starts playing well and regularly, they can play in tandem - Johnston in more of a lead up role (I'm pretty sure he even played on the wing during his pre-AFL years? CHF should be no problem.) and Murphy out of the goal square.

I agree with you,and its a good plan but I fear that you gotta grab them when you can.Top players don't sit around for a year waiting for a Swans offer.Someone else will snap them up if we don't.

That said, the club shouldn't even be considering a trade this year given where the list is at and the compromised drafts in future years.

I'm skimmed through the whole thread and surprised no one has thrown up Fevola - he seems to fit into the category the Swans would usually go for: erratic, talented, needs a change of scenery, team mates sick of him. I would have thought he'd be a far more realistic option than Pav or Roughy, though I hope it never comes to that!
I mentioned fev in my earlier post in this thread. We should of got him for the exact reasons that you have said! Too late now, he is contracted till 2011

                    Does anybody know:

If we fall short of our salary cap for the next year or two can we readjust the payments of our long-term contracted players to "front end" their contracts ie pay them more now and less in the later years of their contracts. This would free up more salary cap space in future years to increase our purchasing power for uncontracted players at a time when we might be competitive again ??

Quentin Lynch anyone, WCE would probably trade him now they have Natanui.
He becomes surplus to the weagles.

Quinten Lynch seems to play better when he's not playing as a key forward. Towards the back end of last year when they started him in the centre square and in the past couple of weeks when he's played in the ruck due to Cox's absence he's been really good. Unfortunately, we ARE after key forwards.
