Quite apart from the opponents we have to come - all four vying for top 4 spots and two looking certain to finish there - our injury list says our chances are slim. We have no-one left to come into the senior team who will come close to covering for Macca. Jolly looks sore. ROK must be sore. Even Kirky looks sore.
Can Swans make Finals?

It would be just grand to have them in the top eight, but as Liz said, Macca, Jolls, ROK, Crouchy, Micky, and they couldn't keep playing Hanners could they (year 12, etc). But we do have hope, and are messing with the minds of the opposition (except with collywood, no minds to mess with). They are not sure how to take us now. At least in my way of biaised thinking the game against St Kilda alone would mess with their minds. I hope.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

SoRry, but after the last couple of weeks, and other results going our way, I need to bring this thread back onto the front page. Can the swans still make the finals???? To quote Shawn Michael Michaels(Will Ferrell in Blades of Glory)..."the team of Sydney Swans are like a freight train from hell and we're gonna go straight up the ass of the competition, WHOOOOAAAA!!!!!!".Comment

I feel a little de ja vu here .
After the Port game RWO discussed how wonderful we were and how many of the next four games we would win. Then we won -------- None!
If we limp into the eight then good and well but people lets not get ahead of ourselves. We beat Richmond. Let take this one week at a time.Comment

Yeah, I did the predictor and I had us finishing 8th on percentage on 40 pts!!! I had us beating Geelong, Losing to Collingwood and beating Brisbane. Essendon lost to Saints and someone else, while Hawthorn also lost a game to Adelaide and Port.....they lost a couple of games as well. If we win all three we r def in, 2 wins and we need to rely on results, and 1 win is useless.Comment

That R22 game is huge. We may be playing for finals and the Lions playing for Top 4. Hope that gets a big crowd.Comment

Kirky is playing on, that is if if they want him too.

Hate to sound like a wet blanket guys, but I just can't see the Swans beating Collingwood in Melbourne.
Too too too too many times in the past four seasons and seven games, I have gone into a Pies game thinking, "this time, we're due", only to be crushed with disappointment. Not this time. The frustration of that third quarter comeback last June on to lose YET AGAIN was too much to take.
Sydney will lose their Round 21 game against Collingwood as night follows day.
I am more interesting in seeing such improvement in the team. This has all the promising signs that was shown towards the end of season 2002.
Na, forget about September in 09, and just enjoy the kids play, (even though they will certainly lost AS USUAL to the Magpies).Comment

I think that beating the Pies is a bridge too far right now along with you T40. What I desperately want to see is us play much more competitively. I was really happy with the Round 11 performance but we couldn't stay with them in the final qtr. It would please me greatly to see us run out the game well and finish strongly.Comment

Scenario:
Round 20:
Adelaide beats Hawthorn
Swans beat Geelong
Carlton beat Port
St Kilda beat Essendon
Round 21:
Brisbane beat Port
Hawthorn beat Richmond
Collingwood beat Swans
Essendon beat Fremantle
Round 22:
Swans beat Brisbane
Hawthorn beats Essendon
Port beats Kangas
(It goes along the lines of something like that)
Swans go through on percentageComment

I think it's no coincidence our reversal of form has coincided with the realisation that we are going to miss the finals, regardless of what the players may spin the media weekly.
Pressures off and new blood has come in like a breath of fresh air, playing well and rejuvenating the established seniors.
If we win this week and a few results fall into place, I fear the expectation of 'we have to win for a finals spot' will see us go back to our indecisive ways...unfortunately.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment
