The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face. -
Question to all RWO's, Love it or hate it, is this not an opinion?Comment

Everyone is allowed an opinion and should not be banned for expressing it. Some posters drive me nuts on here but as I have stated earlier I will defend their right to express their opinions. Also if you dislike a poster so much then use the Ignore List. (It certainly works for me)
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Last night was a really good game of football and anyone who doesn't appreciate the contest but just the final score is sadly missing out. I spoke to ORB after the game and we were commenting how gutted we would have been if a win last night meant the difference between finishing 4th or 5th going into the finals. But, win or lose last night I don't think anyone was seriously considering the Swans likely Premiers this year. It was how we went about it that was more important last night (just as it was the week before).
How could you not take pride in the way your players went about it last night? Sure I know they are professionals being paid to do a job - but so are the players of Melbourne and Richmond. The wide perception of the Swans today is a bunch of superannuated former "stars", some very average mid-aged players and a bunch of untalented kids. And there have been many games this year when that seemed a fair assessment. But last night they played a team that still has the chance to be labelled the greatest ever (though I think they won't get there at 25 games to zip) and matched them throughout the game. When a game is decided by less than a kick there is an element of luck involved (think our grand finals). We lost but we got to see a great game and to have a glimpse into a near-future that is looking a lot brighter than it was this time last week.
Proud? You bet. Just as I was proud of Marty's mark earlier in the year even if he then kicked a shocker. And I was astounded and proud that anyone could do what Brett Kirk did in the final quarter of the the 2006 GF - for my team and on my behalf - even though we lost them too. A lot of our younger players served us well last night against a team that should have thrashed us.
I'm proud that my team doesn't seem prepared to languish down the bottom of the ladder, begging of draft picks. And I can't wait to see if we saw the new dawn last night - we'll know better by the end of the season. The loss of our premiership players was meant to condemn us to the wilderness for years - just as the loss of Kelly, Dunkley et al was meant to a few years ago. I'm really proud that no team is going to consider us easy beats in these last games of the year. I hope that the Swans justify that faith - they certainly set a high benchmark last night.

This thread is ever so slowly degenerating into a philosophical slanging match.
My opinion is that the all round effort and execution was of a very high standard. The only minor hiccup was the first 10 mintues of the third quarter where we perhaps took the foot off just a little.
Whether or not last night's performance was a success will, IMO, ultimately be measured by how we perform in our last few games. If we get hammered by the likes of Collingwood and Geelong, then last night's "heroic effort" will be meaningless. If OTOH this spurs us on to play intense, intelligent and relatively skill error-free football in the remaining games then i would think of it as a key milestone in our rebuilding phase and therefore a success.
So first things first - nothing less than a convincing victory against Richmond next week will help mask the pain of last night's defeat and more importantly - give it some meaning.Sydney Swans - Finals bound in 2011Comment
