I'm not sure if your point is in favour or against but I would much rather that he went to another club than Sydney where he can put in his 100% or thereabouts efforts (depending on his mood) into their forward line.

I do hope he gets his life together for his daughter's sake, but I'd rather he did that away from the Swans.

I admit,it is not a good character resume but wasn't he one of the greatest footballers of all time? The other guy was Ablett senior..he would fail the character test too but his boys are doing better than most fathers sons so who are we to judge? When I started playing AFL "Carey like behaviour "went with the territory and the end of year Footy trip was one long orgy of bad behaviour.Times have changed,the game has been sanitised for wider public consumption and the Abletts and Careys are no longer wanted by some.The talented bad boys are still around though.Unfortunately for the sanitisers, these guys have enormous skill and talent in AFL football .This is what they will be hired for not for teaching youngsters on social morals. I do not have a problem with this and would be honoured if either Carey or Ablett senior coached my son.Its up to parents to make sure their kids know the difference between expertise in football for which these guys are superb and can be respected and expertise in living life in which they need some remedial help.

Who says great players end up being great teachers or coaches?

In fact evidence suggests that great players end up being terrible teachers of the game to young kids as it just came naturally to most of them and lack the skills to teach it.

If we are going to get someone in next year to work with our very young forward line, I would prefer that it be someone capable of teaching such as one of our ex assistant coaches in Jonas or an Alan Richardson type from Essendon who are noted teachers of the game.

Likely to be far more beneficial to our youngsters than hiring someone because they were a champion of the game.
