Agree totally, Shaw was one of our better disposers of the ball this year, under pressure or not. It's just that he's prone to 1-2 clangers per game, and when he doesn't nail his kicks, they tend to look VERY ugly. Overall, his footskills were actually very, very good, if not fantastic.

Yeah look Geelong HAS to offload players. They wont accept a fringe player so I reckon just a third rounder would do it for us. He is not as good as he is perceived. But he would be handy in our forward line. Would ease the pressure of Veszpa and would allow Veszpa to move into the midfield.Comment

Any decent defence will easily rebound was a wayward disposal, that is why I hope (surely the Swans know better) that we don't just pick the fastest mid we can."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Great trade him while his value is low in a substandard draft.
If he's going it better be part of a deal to recruit a Kennedy or Lovett cos he won't raise more than a 3rd rounder.
I don't understand some of our list management strategies, we are loyal to veterans like Crouch and Barry to the detriment of our list (i.e. we should have taken the hard decision to cut them in last years good draft), yet we are happy to trade (or delist in Davis case) blokes like Schneider and Buchanan who are younger and capable of playing match winning football.
And to make things worse, we persist with an underachieving plodder like Ablett
Rant over - it's probably made up by the journo anyway!!!Comment

Shaw had (still has, really) ordinary disposal but we recruited him regardless, because he has added something with his leg speed. He actually looks quicker than he probably is because the others around him are so slow.
It's easy to dismiss players for what they're not - yeah I'd prefer Judd to Tenace but we have to be realistic about how we're going to address weaknesses without much to trade away.
Poor disposal is a weakness in our list, Tenace butchers the ball worse than anyone on our list so recruiting him would simply emphasise that weaknessComment

I wouldn't be surprised to see Amon playing at Port or Carlton next year. Both clubs are need some hard nuts in their midfield who can win the ball and get it out to more gifted running players. So far at the Blues, Judd has had to do a lot of this work himself.
And both clubs should have some good picks to trade after the Fev and Burgoyne deals go through.
I thought it was strange when Horse nominated him as being in our top 5 players. Looks like it was an attempt to talk up his trade value."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Crouch, Barry and Ablett do (or did) the job the coaching staff required, whether we see it or not, Buchanan doesn't. When was the last time he played match winning footy - the 05 GF is my best bet!
We'll probably get more for him this year with clubs trying to sure up their lists before the draft restrictions hit, then we would have last year.
Totally agree, spud is exactly what he is.Comment

I'm not knocking Crouch and Barry they have been great players. But by playing on in 2009 they cost us the opportunity to draft 2 players in a strong draft. We also only took a couple of rookies due to $'s avaialable, we could have taken a full quota of rookies without their salaries.
The club IMO should have made the hard decision and told them (or at least 1 of them) their time was up. This decision may hit us hard in a couple of years time.
I get that their's not alot of love for Buchanan which is fine, but if they are planning to flog him off for a pick in this draft then they should have done it last year when a) he had more value and b) the draft was much stronger.
I think he offers a bit more because he can break lines and is a potential game breaker
If it's part of a deal to get a Kennedy or Lovett to the club then that softens the blow
I'm not going to slit my wrists over it but i am dissappointedComment
