why would we not entertain selecting Luke with pick 14. Our captain BK is probably entering his last year and Luke is very similar, cant kick lacks pace, and JB is not getting any younger.

Because Ball probably doesn't particularly want to find out he's moving to Sydney on November 26, we already have Bird, Kennedy, and Smith who are tailor made slowish inside-midfieders, and there are quite big question marks over Ball's body. I'd grab him in the PSD any day, but pick 14? No way.

That story is a bit misleading, other clubs were well aware of him last year as well. In any case, it does explain why we offered Richmond picks 6 and 14 for their pick 3.

Well spotted. Makes sense to me. I am going to be tuning in to watch the draft this year. Its turning into a positively engrosing chess match!

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
The national is on November 26, and will be televised live on Foxtel at 7:30. The preseason and rookie drafts are held via teleconference on December 15, iirc.
Yeah slight issue of being born two months early and needing to live in Sydney for another 18 months!, but that should never get in the way of a good yarn.
No doubt that we rated this kid and the 6 and 14 for 3 move was a play for him.
Beatson must be crying in his beer that Martin didn't have a less obtrusive year with the Bendigo u18's this year.

Given Roosey's comments about the age of the draft and the inherent problem of soft tissue injuries when men play boys , is chronological age such a good indicator of maturity? Certainly when I was at school the boys shaving at 12 and 13 did better strength wise and athletic wise in the junior years. Those late to puberty caught up a lot but still were behind them at 17. Players might be better ranked by weight, girth ,muscle density etc with parameters set which they must reach before they can play with the men. Gangly talls often take much longer to mature out and getting smashed by mature men does them no good at all. Maybe an early maturer can be ranked as a gun only to fade out at 23 when a late maturer catches up and passes them.
Hence in the draft,an immature good player ranked high might turn out better than a fully physically matured player ranked very high. The point being that we should not just judge them on age and the less developed player should not be pitted against men.
