And he managed to establish himself in the Kerry team within a single season of returning to Ireland, despite the fact he'd barely played the sport for the previous 8 years and had not played at senior level.

So assuming that if he comes back it is for the right reasons and his body is in good enough shape to take the physical stuff, I can't see why he wouldn't re-adapt almost straight away.
Slipped into the Kerry team under the father/son/brother rule I would imagine. It's not as tough as AFL and it's still an amateur sport, nonetheless.

I think the game may have gone past him.

I'd hate to see another "Plugga" comeback. That wasn't very pretty.

I take it you didn't watch any of his games? The Irish commentators seemed to think he was BOG in the semi-final and close to BOG in the final up to the point when he was substituted.

Sure, he may not have found his way onto the panel so easily had he been Joe Bloggs (though Joe Bloggs, ex-Swan and AFL premiership player with a junior background in Gaelic would probably still have made it). But hard to argue he wasn't worth his spot in hindsight.

He probably is worth his spot in Gaelic Football. Good on him for having a go and keeping a promise to his father.

I would really, really, really, really hate it if the swans sign him back up and then he finds out three weeks into the season that his body can't take the tackling and decides to retire. That would suck on a pretty big scale - he's already stuffed our list up once.

He should go out a hero of Gaelic Footy.

Is that an Irish thing? Substituting your players when they're BOG?

We have been over this many a time.

How exactly did he stuff up our list the first time?

His retirement accouncement was dileberately made post the list lodgement period to make sure that his salary owed for the next season was not included in the previous season which would have casued us a significant problem with the salary cap.

By him and the club waiting it alleviated any issues with the salary cap we had, especially since with Fosdike going and being paid an injury payment that would have been back dated the same as Calton and Nick Stevens are going through now.

I don't know, left us short a defender one week before the season started?

No, because we couldn't get rid of him anyway. Now, if he'd signed a new contract, THEN left, then that would be true, but, like Fosdike, if he had retired his salary from this year would have been considered and taken us over the cap limit.

As much as I would have liked a spot on the list for Cuz even I wouldn't accuse Tadgh of stuffing up the list. We were lucky he played for as long as he did for us. There is no doubt in my mind that the Swans always knew that he intended to go home and it was not a shock that he left a little early.

I wonder what his book says on the topic.

And in all likelyhood the sancation would have meant draft penalties meaning we would have missed out on early selections this year.

The decision for Kennelly to go back home was made long before he and the club announced it, but salary cap issues meant he and the club needed to make sure it was after the final list lodgement so that it did not hinder the club in future years.

'We ran the clinic later that year, and invited about 12 or 15 kids, including Tadhg. He just stood out, confirming what the Swans had thought, and as they say, the rest is truly now history, and it's nice to have a played just a very, very small role, in that history.''

Well you would think from this article he won't be back. I'm sure they're trying to find a nice Irish girl to replace our Nicole. One that knows how to cook a spud and pour a Guiness after a hard day at work.

Hey, let's forget about Kennelly and start importing Irish mail order brides instead.

As much as I hate him, Hutchy has been on the money on all the stuff he has written about Kennelly so far, in fact he must be getting it from someone close to him.

In todays Sunday Herald Sun he mentions that the discussions have now come down to contracts etc and the offer is now on the table from the Swans.

He doesn't offer an opinion as to what Kennelly is going to do, but does seem sure he wants to return to Sydney to teach and possibly coach.

I reckon Kennelly will take the 1 year offer on the table, come back and see how it all goes and then reassses what he does from there.

He better hurry up and get back here as pre-season training is underway. I wonder how much conditioning and endurance he has lost with this year off?

1 year contract sounds right on the money.
