The quotes are from two periods. his early days before he even played a game and then when his father died.

next installment will probably be all about how he grew to love sydney and fell in love with a local girl etc etc etc etc. BUT still with a longing to fulfill his boyhood dream.

All leading to having now ticked that box and coming back to play again.

Yep I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago (perhaps in the Sunday Herald Sun?) that the Saints had offered him a contract.

Surely he wouldn't do that to us? Would he?

Seems an unlikely rumour. Technically he's still a Swans player and if he did want to play for another club, he'd have to go through the pre season draft.

Well we seem to assume that doesn't matter.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

My understanding (admittedly based on what I read on RWO ) is that as well as the Swans backline, the big bucks and the house in Bondi, the big attraction in Sydney for Tadhg is his squeeze, who refused to go to Ireland. Going to Melbourne would defeat the purpose of the exercise, not to mention earn him a smack in the mouth.

So IMHO Kennelly playing for any other AFL club is as likely as McGlynn leading the Swans first ruck (or Luke Ablett winning the grand final sprint, Brett Kirk running and carrying, etc.....)

This also explains the interminable salary negotiations. He doesn't have much bargaining power. And he did walk out on us, bastard.

Wow $35 for the Tadhg book. Strewth the Bart Cummings book is selling for $49.95. If you put that into a genuine comparison the Tadhg book's true worth is about $5.95.

I wish the bloke would just say yay or nay and put this Home and Away saga to rest. Yeh he might be a good bloke and Roosey loves him and all that, but geez mate "it's time", times up.

Not really relevant. If Kennelly wants to play AFL for somewhere other than the Swans, he is well within his rights to nominate for either draft given that his contract has expired.

Come December, if he's not back, all Swans fans should be entitled to a free copy of his book to be used in an RWO bonfire spectacular.

Based on this it says Kennelly has officially told Kerry that he'll be heading back to Australia

The evidence is mounting that Tadhg will be back in 2010:

                              1. Won a premiership medal in Ireland.

                              2. Paul Roos and other Swan officials took the time and effort to come all the way to Ireland in September.

                              3. He's promoting a book, where the Australian market offers more than the Irish market. Associated with that, there may be a deliberate commercial timing of all this will he?/wont' he? suspense.

                              4. He is aged 28, and simply can't afford to miss another AFL season if he contemplates a further delay. The AFL is not a competition that say a man of 30 and of Tadhg's standard, can come back to after a 2 or 3 year absence. Herein there is also a strong financial opportunity that has the benefit a developing a healthy nest egg for him. Those financial opportunities will not avail themselves if he continues to play in Ireland

                              5. Consequently, and without showing disrepect to the amateur Irish football League, there is a better opportunity for him to come back to Australia until say aged 31 or 32; and then play his last years (until say his mid to even late 30's) in Ireland.

                              6. His girlfriend is an Aussie who does not want to live in Ireland.

Another issue is if Tadhg plays for Sydney in 2010, will he be any good? Remember in 2008 when he kept physically breaking down, particularly with that shoulder. I suspect that his form in Ireland would point to his physical injuries now being behind him, bearing in mind that it is a much less body contact sport over there. And of course, Tadhg played for the Swans in 8 straight seasons (2001-2008), where Sydney missed the finals just once.

                                News to me...

As of now it is unclear to which club he will play for, but it is almost certain that he will resume his role as player and coach with the Sydney Swans, though St Kilda's also are believed to have made him a sizeable offer.
