I reckon he's made his decision but wants to announce it at his book launch (ie ; back to the swans), in the knowledge that the positive publicity will help sell plenty more books.
To be frank, I'm sick to death of the whole saga. It's all very..."me me me".

Maybe Swans fans sitting at their keyboards demanding a decision made in a time frame to suit them, rather than the player himself, could be interpreted as "me me me".

This whole drama seems to be more related to publicising his book, so i do agree on the "me me me". I can understand the general frustration of the fanbase, at least a confirmation on the timeframe would probably seem reasonable.

Even Fairfax and News Ltd publications are now referring to it as a "saga" and it's hard not to be "just hurry up" about it all.

I think it's more than fair for Swans fans to demand an answer. I think most of us have been more than patient and sick of the ongoing speculation (that has managed to form part of two summers now)

It does all come across as rather self indulgent.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Sheeze, I wouldn't want to be Tadgh right now. Irish papers saying one thing, Australian papers saying another, family wanting one thing, long term girlfriend wanting something else, rain and green grass one side, sun and surf on the other, Clubs split between genetically engineered Gaelic family and the Sydney Swans AFL family, being a hero at one side of the world, and again on the other. Everyone wanting final answers, NOW. Shoot, who would want to be an Irish AFL player!!!!

the interesting thing is that we are very much after a Back........a back flanker either back pocket or HF flank............our counter attack with Shaw was very sound but to have two players of this ability we would be very dangerous.....

It doesnt appear we have many other good options for achieving a quick back with established pedigree of games in the AFL............

The main concern for me is that our Coaches see this area as a real weakness and if Tag doesnt join the Swans for 2010........who will join Shaw as a punchy counter attack defender ??

Mattner and Malceski are two obvious candidates, given that's probably where they play their best football. Jack could probably play there too. Maybe Thornton. On paper, Barlow should be able to, though he was horrible when played in defence last year. And while they are not overly relevant to 2010, Heath and Gilchrist have HBF written all over them if they make it to senior level.

I wouldn't have thought it's the area of greatest concern

i wonder why they want Tag for only one season ?

I also wonder how many top4 teams would Malceski, Bevan, LRT and Mattner start in ?

                      Bolton, Shaw are givens !

I would like to see Barlow given a little more time to develop as a Back due to long clearing kicks, his speed for a tall guy and his ability to play as a midfielder at his height is a little rare

he has been in the top 3 runners for the 3km pre season routines for the Swans last couple years in a row !..........if they persisted with LRT you would think they would get value for money with Barlow also and especially flexibility for match ups

Who says they only want him for one more season?

But he himself has said his body was shot when he went back to Ireland. Hopefully a year off has given his shoulders and knees a decent chance to recouperate but we (or he/the club) won't know until he's back playing.

Geelong have lost Harley; they'd take LRT (admittedly a very different type of player) like a shot, as would several other teams. And an in-form Malceski, together with Mattner, would be a welcome addition to the Saints (I'd put them both above Dempster and the Clarkes).
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I agree with Primmy. If there is any truth in the Irish paper reports it sounds
like he is a young man (young to me anyway) being torn in two who really doesn't yet know what he really wants/what is best for him to do. It is possible that he is still working through the grief process and issues surrounding his father's death if he still angry about having been in Australia and not in Ireland getting to know his father better, and after his father's death not being there for his mother and family. Maybe coming back to Sydney will help clarify his thinking. I think it will be a mistake for him to be pressured into making a decision to please others, no matter how frustrating for we Swannie fans. It is after all mostly the media that is making his non-decision into a saga.
