He was gone anyway, the risk is that the move destabilises the team leading into finals, potentially made worse by Barry resigning

The thought of Barry leaving RWO and defecting to the Giants would be devastating to the club.Comment

That was also my first thought. Barry has become such a celebrity on here and to think he has mellowed of late since he finally accepted that the venue (it is not an oval) is no longer a Swans venue. His great joy will be when "that player" retires.Last edited by Nico; 11 August 2016, 11:58 PM.Comment

It may ultimately depend on other player movements - if we can hang on to Nic Newman, then surely he will be a huge chance to push into our back 6 in 2017, freeing up Mills. Alternatively, If Dawson continues to progress with his development in early 2017, he may push hard for a spot in the forward group, creating more opportunity for Heeney in the middle. And that's without even thinking about the impact of the man that is the focus of this thread leaving (which seems to be inevitable I'd say), and what that opens up in our midfield group.
On the point of Mitchell himself - I'll be more than a little disappointed in him if he does leave for extra $$$$ (which knowing Hawthorn's flexible salary cap, that's exactly what he will get). We've looked after him very well, in particular through significant injury concerns early on. That is footy though these days, and player loyalty is not a strongpoint anymore. I have little doubt we already have plans for life after him if he does go - and that our recruiters will continue to amaze with their ability to find good bargains in the draft and the recycled player pool - and pull off the odd big trade. It will be all far more palatable if he doesn't end up playing for those despicable wees and poos however - anyone that plays for them I hate without remorse these days.Last edited by mcs; 12 August 2016, 09:46 AM."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Our midfield is so hard to crack and we've got great young players coming through. If Mitchell wants to leave and we can get a good outside mid or running half back I'm all for it

I'll boo him if he goes to the Hawks. Anywhere else and I'll be apathetic - but if he goes to wees and poos land, he won't be above reproach, especially given we haven't exactly been stingy in what we have offered and paid in the early years of his career, and shown significant faith through a fairly injury plagued early part of his career."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

All in all, I'd probably only boo him the first time around against them, and I get pretty bored of booing players fairly quickly, so I'd probably lose interest and refocus on the more pressing need of booing Hawthorn's additional players that often wear green"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Shades of ROK... farming himself out and just ends up staying at home.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I'd be personally loathed to see him go, but in his defence, clubs aren't that loyal either. Players' names are thrown around well before the seasons ended & many a player is shipped off when they get the feeling they are unwanted or surplus or a better player can be obtained.Comment

I'm always surprised when players who are wanted where they are move clubs for money. Say they get an extra 150K a year for three years somewhere else. Half is gone straight away in tax, then there are all the costs of moving, and stamp duty & agents fees if they are selling and buying houses. You can see how some guys actually come out behind. Someone needs to tell them, it's not what you started with, it's what you end up with.Comment

I wouldn't be surprised if the experiment a year ago with marsh in the midfield in ressies wasn't a test in part to see if he could do a josh Kennedy in the future also"be tough, only when it gets tough"
