Andrew Ireland on SEN yesterday said pretty much what has been said above about Mitchell. I think, reading between the lines, that if the total player payment changes sufficiently to accommodate TM then he will stay. But Ireland said what we offer him may not be what the market is prepared to pay for him and in that case he could go. He also said that once delistings etc have happened their aim is to retain the current list and get younger players through the draft. So it sounded to me that unless something very good is on offer we are not going to trade in. So expanding on what Ludwig said we may be looking to do rookie upgrades only, rather than trading in.

Easier to replace an in an under midfielder than Reid. Would keep him over Mitchell, even though I think Mitchell has stamped his passport anyway. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

I'm not a huge fan of Reid. I see potential, but that's not enough for me to be desperate to keep him.
There's a chance that he'll become valuable to us, and given his lack of playing this year, as others have said, is worth little on the trade table.
As far as Mitchell goes, it's pretty simple I think.
Club will wait to see what they can sort out in trades and other player ins and outs and see what cash they have available to him.
Commit now and we may lose out on some other player we need, wait too long and he may get fed up and ask for a trade.
Club seems willing to risk the latter. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

For mine Reid's best game was the 2012 GF. He has been a disappointing footballer when on the park apart from a few games. Probably because he has struggled to string games together due to injury, however, his goalkicking is appalling. Rohan has hit his straps so into the future he is a way better forward option than Reid. It is significant that Rohan has signed for another 3 years, yet there is no sign of us signing Reid or even hankering to sign him beyond his current contract that expires next year. Clubs are good these days at signing a required player a year ahead of the contract expiry. If Vickery is a sought after player with a year on his contract then surely Reid commands the same attention. There was a report a while back that Collingwood knew how to cure his injury woes.Comment

Would have thought his best game was against Freo, but he is still young and everything is there bar the goal kicking technique. Top mark, pretty good field kick, good speed, agile at ground level.
Depends on the status of his next contract, but from an overall list point of view I'd keep him over Mitchell. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

He didnt get much of the footy that day either - but the goal he scored that started with AJ was immense (or did Mal start it?)

I like the idea of keeping Reid. He had shown, before his injury, he could play a number of roles for us: wing, ruck, chf, chb, full forward, fullback and even a petty good midfielder. The thought of another eight years of someone who can play ask those position, and be good (or got enough of required) at all of them has gotta be worth persevering with.
Mitchell may or may not be another ROK if he stays. Will he constantly be thinking about what he could be doing elsewhere and with extra $'s in his wallet. Not a nice thought, I know, but a consideration. Having said all that I want Mitchell to stay, he had the best hand we have seen since Micky O and looks to have a lot of improvement left in him.
I just don't like seeing any Swans leave, but we haven't been hurt by any losses either (except I really wished Mummy could have stayed :-( )

Part of the reason I'm not a huge fan of Reid is because of the Swans.
Debatable that he worked down back (I don't think he ever did)The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

My 2 bobs worth is that TM is exceptional at finding space. He may be slow and have speedy hands at extraction, but I am so often he is standing alone for a release option.
I think Hewitt is learning the trick alsoComment

He gets big numbers in tight contested situations, including tackles, kicks goals, can be an excellent tag (just ask the other Mitchell)....He's not easy to replace.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Easier for the Swans to replace right now than most other clubs.

He's a different type of player, with a different skill set, to those 2.
I reckon they would complement each other, when Heeney and Mills join the midfield, more so than they'll replace each other.
But yes I get your point, we are blessed with a plethora of quality mids right now...
I would still like us to keep Mitchell over Reid, if that's what it comes down to.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

I suspect we have a trade target and that is why we are juggling Mitchell's money. If we needed to find a bit extra to keep Tom, we'd just move on a couple of fringe players like Towers.
It's what we did to fit in Tippett and what we did to fit in Buddy although that cost us Mummy as well.
Mitchell to Hawks is gaining currency but I don't see how they get the deal done.Comment
