I think we'll adjust quite well to Tom leaving, Mills will seamlessly slot into the midfield.

Having a good batch of draftees and players with contracts ending in 2017 (Naismith, Hewett, Mills amongst others) works well as with Tippett's deal finishing there we shouldn't be in this situation. I don't think the Buddy deal will haunt us down the track, in fact if you look at some of the telephone numbers being bandied around this trade table (Vickery on $500,000 a year and Wells on $600,000) then I think that Buddy's deal is suddenly looking fairly reasonable (not sure about Tippet but that is not his fault)

I can't believe people think that we'll get pick 23 or something else similar! I can guarantee it'll go down as something like we'll get their pick 54 for our pick 57 or even lower rounds hence the comment of swapping later picks! Hell i wouldn't even be surprised if we give them our 4th rounder for their 5th! The whole thing is very vague and the only guarantee right now is we have pick 14 which is probably the best result we could have hoped for off them.

I'd be surprised, since we don't have a 4th rounder. We gave it to the Bulldogs for a small bag of white powder.

The way this trade will be viewed by history will totally depend on who we draft or trade for with pick 14...

          If it's a.... D OKeefe, or a J Willoughby, or a P Vezspremi, or a L Johnston, or a J Lamb,or a D Towers..... then we've been screwed.

Let's just hope that Beatson and co can pick a couple of worthy 1st rounders this time around.....It hasn't been their strong point.

Just wondering what others think a fair trade would have been?
Swans were after a pick, so what number would you assign as being fair?

I think it's an OK deal. We possibly could have done better but at what cost dragging this on for another 5 days and only leaving a couple of days for other moves.

When I saw that I thought "that's sheer class, gee I hope he stays!". It was hugely impressive and I'm sad to see him go, but being a realist (most of the time), I understand why it's happening. Plus, the cold reality is we have him covered anyway. Still a bit sad, but it's the way footy is these days. Good luck to him, hope he enjoys his money and we beat his team in the GF next year. How liked would them apples be??!!

I can only conclude that the deal was struck this early because the Swans have other plans for the rest of the trade week. Perhaps they dangle 14 and 17 in front of GC in the hope of getting one of their top 10 picks

The Hawks have a reputation for getting deals done early so that they can do more, even taking a small hit sometimes to grease the wheels. I think that we generally trade pretty well, this is just two well managed clubs going about their business.

I think we (the people) are taking way longer to adapt to the new realities of trading and the increased mobility of players than the clubs or the players. I support a team that (for a while) ping-ponged between levels of the English soccer leagues. By the time I had my head around the new squad it would generally be about 80% of the way through the season (although I didn't get to many games - NARF ).

I always thought Tom was worth a top 10 pick and I suspect that when the final wash up is clear that this is about what we'll get.

Our approach to trading as fair and reasonable does us no harm at all and I think we've conducted ourselves well again, it helps having a class act like Tom Harley involved at the club too.

Contrast to the way the Suns are carrying on with their Chairman mouthing off all the time, if he's not careful JOM will just leave for the PSD and go to Essendon. I suspect that a player and the Dawks first rounder in 2017 will have to suffice.

Not sure that Gold Coast will be looking at trading backwards for either of 4,6 or 8 as they need elite talent. The may well trade forward and seek pick 2.

I'd be happy with us to go with a spread of late first and early second round picks which will really add some depth to what is actually quite a deep squad already

The worst team to deal with during trade period is Essendon and Adrian Dodoro must me the most annoying person to deal with. Last years Jake Carlisle deal is the perfect example just dragged on and on.

Suns chairman has every right to be angry they spent two years rehabbing this kid and now when looks like he's ready to play again he wants to leave. Not to mention JOM is a potential Brownlow medalist if healthy.

I would have preferred it if we just let him go to the draft than making Hawthorn get stronger. It's so weak of our club to let them get away with it. Very upsetting.

Trade value:. The easy way to look at it is where does mitchel rank out of all 23 year olds. Hes probably about 10th best. Therefore worth pick 10.
