I dont know what others felt but there seemed to be no synergy between our playing group in the first half, the number of butchered disposals was sending me spare. The second quarter in particular sent me spare. We really should have been put a lot further out of the game except for the fact that the dorks couldnt kick straight.

Positives = Kennedy, he was just fantastic all day until he copped that knee in the temple....BIG WRAPS from me. Hannes just senstaional, almost looked like he was getting the poos with some of his colleagues at 3/4 time. Mumford, geez the big fella makes a difference. Jack although not sparkling with his human highlight reel stuff was very solid all day. Gary Rohan, growing like a muchroom in his top level learnings - Im gonna say it now the kid will win a Brownlow at some point, I reckon he will be that good, attack on the ball was just inspirational at times, 2nd & 3rd efforts PLUS when he stuffs up he does his utmost to fix it immediately.

Negatives = Goodes, had a stinker. When Jude Bolton missed Burgoyne in the last 3 minutes I could have strangled him, bloody ordinary. Im a big fan but he was ordinary. "Jetstar" I wonder if anyone has talked to him about intelligent disposal. Love it that he burns just about anyone in a foot race, but when it gets turned over almost every time it gets a bit frustrating.

Other than that, I hate the feeling after these sorts of games. BUT if the players know what went wrong today and can apply some skill to the intensity that they showed, we should be OK this season. "Savour the feeling folks, lets hope we learn from this because I dont think Hawthorn were that good today.

Oh and sucked in to Campbell Brown, the footy Gods got him nicely. Pity they missed bloody Guerra :-(

I agreed with all of your post Liz, but particularly with this bit. Tops game, great fun to watch, and Hanners and the big Mummy were brilliant. Looking forward to the rest of the season and the next few years. Some of these kids could be anything.

Jack (barely over 50) was probably also in the top half-dozen and White's performance was certainly more than decent. Rohan was terrific too, while Pyke (young in games, if not in years), Jetta and MOD were handy. Heath probably isn't quite ready yet but wasn't overawed and made some good contributions amongst some mistakes.

I figured that to win this game we needed lifts from the senior core of Bolton, Goodes, ROK and Kirk. Kirk did his best for a half and a bit on Mitchell, but it was probably Mitchell's ability to work into the game that finally won the game for the Hawks. I suspect this is just a reflection of his age. ROK was reasonable but nowhere near the force he can be, Bolton was practically invisible, and Goodes frustrating.

Completely agree, lots to look forward to. Lots of poor disposal today but great effort and intensity. Heath certainly needs time in the 2's, really poor turnovers all game. Despite Jetta doing some good things I reckon he could do with a spell in the 2's soon, to get his confidence up.

Puss Puss, the saucer of milk is here.

Armchair critics rule because we don't get paid $500,00 a season and then play like crap.

The Recruitment team for the Swans need a big slap on the back for their efforts in the last few years. Sam Reid, TDL and L J are exciting players as well.

I don't think anyone should be dropped but the oldies are looking older. On current form, their spots look shakey as others return from injury.

Should scrape into the 8 for finals. When are the Cats and Mugpies going to get their run of injuries................

During one of the recent games one of the ABc commentators suggested that Goodsey is playing like he thinks he has to be everywhere, do everything, and in the process is not doing anything well. Maybe with Kirk not able to turn games anymore and Bolton and O'Keefe struggling since being concussed, and Craig Bolton out, he feels he is 'the man' and the perceived responsibility is affecting how he is playing. Despite his erratic play he is still probably the Swan's most important player.

I wish they would play White at full forward and Henry at CHF, bring in TDL and allow Goodes to go back to his 'roaming the ground' role. The outcome couldn't be that much worse.

Frustrating result, but an engrossing game to watch. It's exciting to see our young talent in their early games and to watch how they learn from playing against the big boys. Much better effort than last week. No wrist-slitting here.

Dissapointing result but we gave it everything adn got so so so close to pulling it out of the bag. By gee we must be due a close win or three- we used our credits for that up in 06-07 but since than we have lost so many close ones its not funny.

Our big struggle today was at the clearances and getting it into the forward 50. We smashed them all day in the ruck (Great ot have Mummy back and Pyke did well again) and actually did pretty well when we got it into the forward 50 (except for goodesy awful kicking!) but we were murdered all day in clearances. Couldn't get clear ball all day, and as a result most of our goals were ones that started from down in our defensive end. Kirk certainly has unfortunately lost much of his presence I think- its not through lack of effort that is for sure, but his effectiveness at least appears very much down on recent seasons.

Shattered when Shaw missed that last attempt at goal. We did so well to fight back and had he kicked it I don't doubt we would of won. Bit miffed that McVeigh didn't get a free, but for once we were probably on the right side of the dodgy free kick count, thats footy really. I just want some consistency in the umpiring, but we will never get that when umpries have a belief that they have to be int he game all day (They weren't too bad on this point today.)

Some average performances, but I think its far better to focus on the positives. For me Kennedy was very good, Mumford was fantastic, Pyke did alright again. Our defense held pretty well against theirs- I thought in that aspect Rohan was absolutely fantastic in getting back and helping out. By our best, and imo well and truly BOG was one Dan Hannebery. IMO he is no longer just a young player with potential, he is a star and very quickly is going to join the elite group of midfielders in the lead. That run and goal in the last quarter was just sensational. He gets the hard ball, uses the ball well, leads well, marks well and most importantly has an excellent kick on him. He is a fantastic player with all the skills to go on and be our next midfield star. He was fantastic all day today.

Young guys were great - I left frustrated but not disappointed- disagree about Jetta - get more games in him and tell him to carry the ball more before he kicks it- he will seldom get caught

I may have missed the discussion re Franklin's attack on the swans head..(was it Mattner?). He should get a bit of a holiday from my point of view.Seemed to deliberately drop his shoulder straight into his head. Also, the trip in the first quarter..in slomo, it seemed he stuck his foot out for the trip, making it deliberate. Although, the trib has always been hard to follow on tripping (not that its easy to follow on any other decisions).

I agree, I only saw the second half but Hanners, big Mumford and Kennedy were probably our best today. Some of Mummy's follow-up efforts were incredible for a big man, great tackling (and without infringing most of the time!) Seemed to be the youngsters who got us back in it and the senior players that let us down *cough* Goodes *cough*. I think we caught the hawks at a bad time when we had a few guys out and were down on confidence, just when they were getting back to playing their 'unsociable' style of football... they didn't play that well but they do have some hard nuts in the middle, we could have used McGlynn today. I think they were just harder at it when it mattered. Our synergy was still a bit down today - there were times when we kicked it forward and our forwards just did not anticipate well enough. Still there is a lot we can improve on, next week's game against the Bombers at the SCG is a must-win.

Campbell Brown is lucky he got injured. Knees into the hips/ribs can do a lot of damage.

He's about as good as his old man.
