By our best, and imo well and truly BOG was one Dan Hannebery. [B
IMO he is no longer just a young player with potential, he is a star and very quickly is going to join the elite group of midfielders in the lead. [/B]That run and goal in the last quarter was just sensational. He gets the hard ball, uses the ball well, leads well, marks well and most importantly has an excellent kick on him. He is a fantastic player with all the skills to go on and be our next midfield star. He was fantastic all day today.
There was a great deal to like about the team's performance today. It bodes well for the future. It was almost a changing-of-the-guard performance.

Daniel Hannebery is very, very good, and I agree he has every chance of becoming a genuinely elite midfielder. Let's make sure we hang on to him!

Mumford was excellent, and so was Josh Kennedy. Rohan was very good too and I think Jesse White did well.

It's a pity McGlynn wasn't ready for today, and Craig Bolton is still injured, because if they played I think we might have got across the line.

If we're serious about the rest of the year, Kirk should be dropped against our quicker paced opponents. He's acknowledged that the game is too fast for him now, and he's such a great team player he wouldn't be offended.

IMO, there's no point relying on Bradshaw or Kennelly being regular parts of the line up from now on. We have to learn to win without them, and if we're able to, that's a great indication of genuine progress by the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bradshaw pulls the pin at the end of the year.

Just back from the G and a quick whiz through the thread. The usual mixture of philosophical and feral. I was mildly disappointed because i didn't expect we would win, but overall it was an absorbing game to watch with many positives to savour. The wind made it difficult for both sides.
Hannebery was outstanding, Kennedy and Smith were very good indeed, Mummy had a top game, Pyke is a more than useful understudy, Henry can stay where he is and so can Jesse White in spades. In fact the one bit of Jesse's play that got me out of my seat quicker than his goals was when he crashed the pack near to goal, blokes went flying in all directions and we goaled shortly after. Rohan is an exciting, skilful and hard player.
I agree with the comments that our problem was in clearances, both at centre bounce and around the ground. Time and again Mummy or Pykey would get first hands on the ball and the Hawks would come away with it. More frustrating than Adam Goodes and perhaps he should spend more time in the middle.
I'm happy to keep Jetta in the ones, he does enough good stuff to justify it and when he really clicks it will be worth being there to see it. If the coaches decide he needs a spell in the twos, I'd be happy to take a punt on Barlow, but I'd like to see Jetta play further forward. MOD was OK, should stay for a while; good to see Heath do some good things, although he may have some nerves to get over. Reg and LRT started shakily but settled and had good games after the first quarter, LRT especially. Can't blame Shaw for the loss despite that frustrating behind, he spent most of his time, I think, on Rioli and did OK. Mattner was good.
I agree with the perception that some of our old stars were down, and I don't know if they can lift or their time is just about up. Again, the fundamental problem is the clearance work where we used to be as good as anyone in the comp, but not ATM. The stoppage coach has some work to do, and perhaps the selectors have some hard decisions to make. Then again, it may be a different story when we get a full complement back on the park
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Despite his erratic play he is still probably the Swan's most important player.

I wish they would play White at full forward and Henry at CHF, bring in TDL and allow Goodes to go back to his 'roaming the ground' role. The outcome couldn't be that much worse.
This has the ping of truth for me. The expectations placed on Goodes by himself, probably the coaching staff and certainly the fans, is counter-productive. He's a champion but cannot be everywhere and play at his best.

His experienced peers in the team need to step up. Maybe Kirk and Bolton aren't capable of doing that anymore, but others are.

im positive about today, i thought the youth shone through to give us enough hope for the years to come. I also thought we played a great game really in terms of effort and heart. If it was looked at in isolation and not as our fourth loss in a row it wasnt too bad. Just yeah , shame its 4 in a row now.

The biggest concerns for me are that bolton and okeefe still havent looked right since getting concussion agains the lions and that kirky (whilst doing a great job tagging) seems to have no time at all when he gets the ball.

The big positives are of course are the young guys, hannenberry looks like a star already and rohan looks like he will be one. White also seemed to thrive as the main man, which is frustrating in a sense, that he goes missing with bradshaw in, but a positive for the future that he seems to want to be "the man" up forward.

I also would single out nick smith for his continuing brilliance in run with roles.. but after all that the guy i was super duper rapt with was mumford, he is going to be an all australian ruckman and he just never gives in.

I also would eat humble pie over playfair, you cant fault his game, oh and pyke was handy as the second ruck. Today was as good as a loss could be really, theres plenty of improvement left in player we know can perform. Play like today and just get that improvement out of key players and we can beat the dons at home next week

Well back from the game and happy with the effort though we lost a game against an ORDINARY side.

Shaw kicks the goal and we probably win.

            Positives

The Kids : Hanners, Smith ,Rohan , ODwyer, Jetta ,Heath. Another game into them.
Sure Heath made a few blues , ODwyer was patchy though thought they did a couple of nice things along the way.
Shane Mumford & Josh Kennedy, both had rippers. Thank god Mummys back.
Keiran Jack, bloody hell he has improved.
Daniel Hannebery : Whatever the club does they must secure this kid for good. Hes a future CAPTAIN.

            Negatives :
Our KICKING OUT. It doesnt have any system at all.
It was nothing short of insipid. We are the worst in the league by a country mile.
We lost against a crap side today. Hawthorn are just ordinary at best.
Ryan Okeefe & Adam Goodes. Both gave us nothing today.
Brett Kirk: The games caught up with the old bugger.Hope he doesnt limp to the line.
Those on here who rekon Mike Pyke can play havent seen enough footy. Im fair dinkum.
I admit hes a whipping boy of mine, though being at he footy today with opposition and other Swans fans
that were around us, that many think hes a SPUD as well. Its only on here that most think he goes alright.
I know its a great story , he trys really hard , taps really well , Blah ,blah ,blah. He offers nothing in general play.
We lost !! I #$#@# hate Hawthorn supporters, they are scumbags

i thought we struggled with the hawks camouflage top, given we kicked to so many 1 on 2s or 1 on 3s

Looking through the stats for the game, Heath had 11 disposals at 36% efficiency. Mumford and Kennedy led our clearances with 6 a piece. I took this as our midfileders are reading the ball well enough and then mumford after rucking is having to clean up the mess. Have to give some credit to the hyphen who done a great job on roughhead.

Good point - and Reg tried all day on Buddy too. Really, given we had the better of Roughead, Buddy, Mitchell, Hodge & Rioli for most of the day you would've thought this was our game to lose. But it's a young team that is still learning how to put these games away - in particular, too often allowed a Hawks player to drift off the pack for an easy clearance. Still, better signs...

Yeah, but the problem was all our "elite" midfielders were beaten,....Goodes, Bolton, McVeigh, O'Keefe and we can't possibly be any sort of threat against a good team until they start beating their opponents again. That's 4 games in a row that has happened

...even though McVeigh got a bit of it against the Bulldogs and Goodes did some magic against Geelong...that's 16 consecutive beatings taken by out midfield.

For a browlow medallist he is far to inconsistent..love the guy but he is dam frustrating. Terrible kick at goal and always has been..when he kicked 8 against the blues it was one of those rare times he had his kicking boots on.
I'm sorry but goodes is by far the most consistent player in the swans. He puts in every game and has an impact nearly all of them. Even on a down day he marks and boots the goal that gets us back close and for good measure has the final possession before playfair goal, critical in the last qtr. So really don't know what the goodes detractors are on. As for terrible kick for goa you must be kidding, sure bad day today but that is pretty rare.
