Anyway, we are going to be great on Saturday. Uncle Tony just tipped us on FLT (but he has done the last few rounds too).Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 24 June 2010, 08:50 PM.Comment

Article in paper during the week was that Pyke was the first to know he was playing on Saturday night. So he won't be dropped.Last edited by Bas; 24 June 2010, 08:52 PM.In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

Braddles to play 75% game time
Swans coach Paul Roos said he expected Bradshaw to play at least 90 minutes of game time.
"He's not going to be absolutely spot-on," Roos said.Comment

I was referring to your comment about 6 goals in 2 weeks being luke warm compared to averaging 2 goals a game. There was no mention of his other stats until this comment, but I'm over it anyway lol.Comment

I'm not surprised that Bevan is in. He will likely be traded/delisted at the season's end, and he needs to have some games under his belt for this year to make him "attractive" if he is to be traded. I've not been impressed with him though, and with Rohan listed as an emergency, anything is possible.

They're not all slow per se, but they probably represent the slower players in the team (ignoring Reg, LRT, Mummy and Bradshaw who are all structurally important assuming they are fit).
The rest are either genuinely quick or at least quick for their height and position.
The only changes I think one would contemplate to bring some more pace into the team are to leave Pyke out for a smaller player or to take Bevan out. And his pace is decent; he is just not up there with Rohan and Jetta. Personally I would prefer Rohan in the team to Bevan, but Bevo did have a particularly good game last time we played.
My main proviso is that if anyone (and Bradshaw, Shaw and Kennelly are the three that come to mind) are not properly ready to play, I would leave them out. Bradshaw I'd play if he were 80% or so but the other two could be more of a liability if they are not fit enough to properly use their pace.Last edited by liz; 24 June 2010, 10:56 PM.Comment

Bevan will be set as medium sized defender for Didak, Thomas or Beams when they rotate forward.
Rohan has looked very promising so far, but I do no believe he is ready as yet to play as medium defender on the likes of Didak, Thomas or Beams as they will have too many tricks for him at this stage. You know what you get with Bevan, he can follow instructions and will stick close to one of the three when they play forward.
Good to give him a freshner up this week either off or in the reserves and bring him and Jetta for the last 10 weeks and the lead up to the finals.
Could see us going with one for further small for the second ruckman, but it will be nice to see both Mumford and Pyke bash and crash Jolly for a full game and work him over.

That Paul Roos is a saint. Here he is, with the stated aim of wanting to beat Mick on this one last chance, and he's still playing Bevan so Horse can get a few more dollars for him at the end of the year. If that doesn't wipe out a lap or two on the wheel of life, nothing will.Comment

LOL. Well...I DO think Roos should be canonised. After all, he and his troops got us our first flag for 72 years, in a season which AFL Boss Andrew Demetriou made some fairly disparaging comments about our "Negative style of play". Miracles DO happen. I'm taking the view that this year is part of a successive rebuilding phase, which is part of a longer term vision. We'll reap the benefits in a season or two. Personally, I don't think St Paul would be SO selfish, that he would sacrifice longer-term benefits for short-term gain (ie, getting that elusive win against the Pies, although I wish he would, in order to increase Brer Longmire's chances at a Premiership tilt in the future). Pride before a fall? Karmically speaking, playing Mr Bevan might just provide us with a better draft pick, were he to be considered tradeable. And he will only be able to do that if he presents himself well in games against credible opposition, such as the Pois. I really wish I DIDN'T think outside of the square sometimes. But that's just me.Comment

Possibly, but which of the slower players would you leave out? Bolton? Kirk? Kennedy? Bird? Hanners? McVeigh? Malceski? Bevan?

Bevan is the obvious one. Would swap him for anyone one of Jetta, Rohan or Vez.
Considering we are playing the Pies who have 1 ruckman on a rainy night, dropping Pyke for one of them would work as well.Comment

But I wouldn't drop Pyke; by going into this game with one ruckman when lots of stoppages are likely, Collingwood has handed us a significant advantage. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team.
