A thoroughly satisfying and good performance I thought. A great day for me- I had a shocker of a week at work and the weekend didn't start good, but the trip down to Melbourne for the day was well worth it. A fantastic first half from the boys and while the 2nd half wasn't quite as good, we were the better team by a big margin on the day and deserved to win by more!
Great performances all around the ground. Grundy was great down back, as was Mal. Shaw is very good up forward and if the injuries allow should be given another run up there. Mumford was superb, and Pyke is improving every week (He is not far off seriously challenging Seaby for backup to Mumford) and his footy sense is improving rapidly, Goodes was again fantastic and finally is finding some form, and I was really impressed by White. That is what he needs to do every week- lead hard, take some solid grabs, kick a goal or two but most importantly put in the 2nd and 3rd effort. I hope today is a bit of a turning point for him- for I have no doubt he has the potential to be very very good, but just has to set his mind to it.
As for K. Jack, he did a superb job on Judd, especially for the 1st 2 1/2 quarters. Granted Judd ended up with 28 possesions, but his disposal effectiveness was just 43%, he made 8 clangers and was generally ineffective. Jack made some clangers, but did his job so very well.
I hope Mummy doesn't get in trouble for that silly little head slam in the 3rd quarter. Should be ok, but knowing the AFL they'll probably charge him for it. IMO he will be very hard done by if he isn't the 2nd AA ruckman- he is the trade of the season by some stretch imo.
What made the win even sweeter was listening to the moaning Carlton fans all day- the umpiring probably was just our way a bit today with some of the 50/50 calls, but the Carlton fans were being so pathetic as they couldn't believe how rubbish their team were so blamed it all on the umps. One guy gave all the excuses under the sun- then by the end of it spent about 10 minutes berating the AFL for supporting the Swans in Sydney and saying that we had been a protected species for years blah blah blah. Unsuprisingly he got up and left with about 10 to go which was highly satisfying indeed!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

We embarrassed Carlton with our attack on the ball. Blues' lack of pressure allowed us time to move the ball with more precision than usual. We put the cue in the rack in the 2nd half.
All played well!Comment

One thing about the MRP is if they are hung out to dry in the media they will change tack faster than....something reasonably fast. Every monkey with a typewriter condemned the decision. No doubt they'll overlook this one, particularly with the Judd vs Pavilich decision as a precedent. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Would like to say whoop whoop on behalf of MikePyke. He is improving each and every game, and his huff against a contentious decision was brilliant. The man knows the roollls. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Craig Bolton is not listed in our best 22.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

FSI
Does anyone know how the "Full Strength Indicator" in the Herald Sun works???
96% seems pretty high.
As I said above, take the whole thing with a grain of salt, they don't even have Craig Bolton in our best 22, in fact, I can't even see him in the squad.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I can find a negative. ROK's game has been pretty ordinary for a number of weeks, but his disposal today was woeful.
I lost count of how many times he gave the ball up to a Blue, without too much pressure.
Goodes has lifted his game. McV was OK, but suffered a knock to the knee, and seemed to struggle for pace after that.
But ROK is still performing sub standard IMO.Comment

Cracking win, loved our intensity and desperation, highlighted by the Meredith goal in the last qr when first McV, then Jack and finally Meredith just wanted it more than the Blues.
Two nice moments - check out the by-play between Mal and Kirk over who gets to hand the footy back to the ump after both are burrowing at the bottom of the pack at 2.33 to go in the match. Another sign that even with the game over our boys were more desperate.
And finally can't remember seeing the boys sing the song with that much gusto for a looong time - perhaps we're seeing some of the early season spirit rebuilding?Comment

Think you're being harsh on ROK but it was noticeable how often he went with the right rather than the trusted left. This is a new phenomenon as I'm pretty sure he only became aware he had a right foot in 2008. Perhaps he needs to do the old leftie half-turn to improve his kicking.Comment

On the day, it was great. Walked to the ground from home(thats right folks, thats how close I live to Etihad), chatting to both swans and blues fans on the way. Dropped into 'the Nixon' for a quick one before the game, got inside the ground went to the TAB, put a five-er on Jack for the 1st goal(damn you McGlynn!!!!) Met my friends, took our seats and proceded to watch a fantastic display from the boys. A shame we didnt bury them in the 2nd half, but still an enjoyable win all the same. Goodes was BOG in my opinion, great games from Mumford, Shaw, Jack, Pyke and a special mention to Meredith....my new favourite.Comment

LOVED IT! Shout out to the Melbourne Cheer Squad and supporters, just fantastic, the slow Sydddddneeeey chant got the Carlton hardcore annoyed, I was loving it!
I was in Melb for work this weekend and extended for a day to see the game, however as my cousin plays for the Blues, I sat with my Aunty&Uncle in the WAGs/Parents area. One hell of an experience when you are decked out in Red and White! Carlton fans are moronic, and while I admire the level of passion, the threats directed at Ratten on his way down at quarter time left me a little
After being at the Collingwood/Saints on Saturday and sitting the Carlton area sunday, I will now just laugh when Swans fans get annoyed at fellow fans for being negative or angry!, even after our worst weeks we don't even come close to the pure hatred that comes out of some of other supporters!Comment
