Roosy said " Sydney can't afford to bottom out". Well Paul I think it just happened and unfortunately we don't get the Draft Picks to go with it.

The whole "draft picks" thing is a bit of a furphy, especially based on the team that did us in this afternoon. Sure, they had two number one picks out there, in Watts and Scully, but both were merely serviceabe compared to many of their team mates. The only top 5 draft pick who really orchestrated the demolition was Sylvia. Morton was arguably the only Demon who lost his one-on-one battle (though was far from disgraced).

Other names who helped tear us apart included Mackenzie (rookie), Wonaeamirri (rookie or pre-season?), Jurrah (pre-season), Bail (late ND pick I think, maybe rookie), Bruce (late ND pick), Bartram (late ND pick), Davey (rookie), Garland (late ND pick), Jamar (rookie), McDonald (pre-season). Most of the other players out there were picked in the teens (mid to late first round) or in the second round. Which goes to show that you can assemble a team from all parts of the draft if you drill them with a game plan that suits them and fill them with confidence. Kinda what Roos did with the Swans in 2005-6.

(Having said all that, when you put Trengove back in that team, and fast forward a couple of seasons for him, Scully and Watts to have gained experience and developed physically) the Dees could be one scary outfit!)

Turning out to be a sad year. Started really exciting with whatever cup, Rohan Jetta TDL, promise of LJ Vez etc etc, a rebuilding year. Got ahead of ourselves and now seem to be trying to replay the 2007 season.

It's a shame. I really don't care if we lose more games this year. Just want to see if we can get game time into Vez, LJ, Meredith, Rohan, Jetta, Currie, Reid, Hannerbery, HEath etc. We seriously need to rebuild, but we're not

        It's very disappointing to see

In the third quarter he did a horrible kick to White (maybe 20 metres) but just stood there and let him try to win the ball, istead of following up to help out. Contrast the 3 Melbourne indigenous players who were fierce at the footy and repatedly went to and won contests.
Apologies, but this bugs me he's a first year player and needs to bulk up for that, and get experience. The Melbourne indigenous players have a lot more senior footy under their belt. The difference between them and us is they play their young guys to get them experience and we don't

All young players walk in with deficiencies and weaknesses. We are turning into S&Don and eating our young

McVeigh's not playing well either - I think there may be a pattern here. The upcoming trivia night could finish our season.

In the about 30 mins of the game I was able to watch before my eyes started bleeding, he was kicking with his right foot again.

Oh FFS you cant say that after 1 game! Last week we played brilliant footy, yesterday was just one of those days unfortuneately where we had a shocker and everything went wrong. We are NOT a bottom team and have proved for the last 8 years or whatever that you dont need draft picks to stay competitive! How can you say that we have 'bottomed out' when we currently sit in 8th place?!

You can't dispute that we are at the bottom of the Eight.

You are mostly right, just a p@##$d off comment on my part. But I'm not really interested in being competitive, I'm interested in Winning Premierships.

I'm happy with being competitive - but being competitive does not simply mean beating teams below us and getting smashed by those above us. it means occasionally beating the collingwoods, the geelongs, the dogs. We simply are not competitive at the moment - and that really angers me. I don't want to finish 6-12th for the next decade beating poor teams and losing to good ones repeatedly. i accept that not everyone can win and there must be ordinary teams as well as good ones. but i can't see the point of being an also ran for 10 years.

On the other hand i still think that with our best 22 on the park with the game at the scg we will win a lot of games. But for us melbourne based supporters getting pumped is agonising...and i do look at the big picture of not just this season but the next five seasons and I wonder where the improvement is going to come from ?

OK, have finally gone through the whole thread and am now going to comment.

Was there yesterday and stayed till the end. Yes, the umpiring was disgraceful, but that wasn't the reason we lost the way we did. Melbourne pretty much put on the same game plan Collingwood put on against us, thus the result.

The amount of time allowed to our players to dispose of the football was minimal as the Dees just kept putting pressure on the ball carrier constantly creating indecision and mistakes by our boys. Where as our boys just seemed to watch and coral the dees and give them plenty of time to dispose of the ball and hit targets easily.

Why cant Roos get our boys to 'HUNT' the opposition down like we've done in the past(03-06). It seems that a lot of teams seem to be 'HUNTING' us down more and more these days.

Full credit to the Demons, they fully deserved to win that game by probably more than just 73 points in the end. I'm convinced a large majority of our boys realy thought that all they had to do was just turn up yesterday and go 'through the motions' and come away with a 5-6 goal win. Little did they know they came up against a well prepared and fired up Melbourne team.

Our best was far and away Adam Goodes, Jack, McGlynn and Malceski. Forget the rest.

And if I hear one more comment about Jetta being one of our best yeaterday, than sorry, but that person has no idea about todays football. He was terrible yesterday.

Ill agree with most of that^.

                                God it was cold...

They were really that good, and we were that bad, throw in the luck that went all their way (rebounds, richochets, bounces) and we were lucky to only lose by what we did.

ROK and McVeigh need a break, to get over their issues. We can't go on like that, and risk them more. We just arn't gaining anything.

and I won't go into my supercoach points lost on ROK :d
