Why was Meredith dropped? Is it a last into the team first out rule? Is he suddenly not good enough? Is he struggling with the pace of the game and if so how is sending him back to Canberra going to help? This must be getting really demorilising for the young guys on our list watching the seniors hang onto their glory years and not cracking it for a run, or getting elevated, having one or two games then being dropped again.
On AFL 360 last night Mark McClure made what I thought was a very good point. As a supporter you want to see your club compete for a premiership and if that's not happening, you want to see the kids coming through being played. Neither applies to the Swans right now and we are no closer to another premiership than we were in 2005 because of the conservative approach taken to team selection, list management and game plan.
If the young players aren't exposed to the big time then how will they ever develop into better players? Does LJ have to kick 10 goals every week, Veszpremi get 40 touches and kick 5 goals? That only encourages the selfish play that doesn't go down well at the club. Currie? If the club thinks these guys have a long term future at the club then play them, not let another season go to waste.
With Melbourne and Richmond up and going, Adelaide, Essendon, Carlton with arguably better lists, a Gold Coast side made up of virtually first round draft picks, it's looking like a pretty bleak period ahead of us.
On your general argument, you may just have to be patient. Roos has always said he'll pace the kids and not play them if he regards it as too soon for their state of development, and will rest them when required. Maybe Horse will follow the more Victorian team approach of "Play 'em fast and make 'em or break 'em".Comment

The only good points were the 2 ready made Hawthorn players slotting straight in which has been offset by the poor form of some of our older players also the 2 early draft picks Jetta & Rohan getting plenty of games and the very good tagging ability of Nick Smith which was pleasing.
Apart from those points we didn't learn much about the ressies players and if they can take the next step.
We only found out that some of our senior players may not have long left to go in their careers from all the contested footy over the years.Comment

Looks like Roos has blown up. All the players' fault of course...

"At the moment there are two or three guys that should be playing that just aren't, simply because of their own lack of performance and more specifically, they just don't want to do what we're asking them to do.""As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Roos dishes a big serve of whoopass to some of the reserves. Although he refused to name any specific players it's probably not too hard to guess.
Nor was homesickness an excuse for several of the young Swans who originally hailed from interstate, Roos added.
"I think they're really good at chucking up excuses," he said of the unnamed underperformers.
"They'll chuck up homesickness, or the bloke doesn't kick the ball to me, or I'm playing in the Canberra league, or we've got too many top-ups, but I don't buy that. They might be selling it, but I'm not buying it."

See the telegraph today . The problem is that even some of the newbies are injured. Lewis Johnston was up for selection and now injured, rohan still not good, currie only two games back from injury, MOD injured, heath on way back from injury etc etc etc. It doesnt actually help to not have fit young guys ready to play. This is not a recent thing, the young guys that everyone so constantly yearn for have been in and out of the ressies team all season with injuries.Comment

I can assure you Johnston is not injured.Comment

I think the main one roos would of been referring to is veszpremi, which I find bewildering that he isnt in the team right now....he showed what he can do as a forward towards the end of 08, which is what we need atm, with all due respect to rhyce shaw.Comment

Not on the injury list and haven't been for weeks it feels like these guys have been around the club for ages without much improvement and Curries been passed by a RU convert who hadn't picked up a SherrinComment
