Swans leap to defence of Brett Kirk after criticism by Jason Akermanis | The Daily Telegraph

Do you mean this one? There's nothing on that online version although they've been known to abridge articles.

    Interesting news if true.

Maybe they're not playing to instruction because they feel however they play, they won't get a look in. In an ideal world everyone would bust a gut and play to the game plan but it's entirely possible that Roos has lost the respect of these players.

In the space of 2 weeks Roos has sprayed the seniors for not listening and reserves for much the same. Maybe he's moving on at the right time.

As far as the senior team goes (mainly the forward line) all our key defensive indicators such as opp goals from rebounds, tackles in inside 50 etc are in the bottom 3 of the league. Who isn't playing to instruction again? Or are the instructions wrong? Unfortunately the rewarding of workers and triers isn't a recipe for success in the modern game.

Cheese - match report said he did a hammy in Q1 last Saturday
Currie - is playing in the 2s, where he says he expected to play this year. Still a bit slight in build. Meanwhile a 26 yo who is the strongest person in the club is playing as backup ruckman. And doing okay. So no surprise there.

Reid is fine and regularly among the best, and TDL got picked this week.

It is not as if the reserves are struggling - 11,2,1 for the season says they aren't too bad. Must be the top ups and rookies who are burning up the grass.

Funny, when Bevan goes back to the 2's the reports usually say he was just so so, but he always gets the recall. Roll on 2011.

Two floggings and one change, TDL back in (which I support ) but how would you like to be in the Swans reserves? I reckon some are checking out other options for their future.

He mentioned not heeding the messages of the development coaches. Could it be the fault of the development coaches? Maybe they are the problem. Perhaps a quality leadership course might be required.

very disappointing with only BM dropped. Agree some of the reserves sill/should be looking elsewhere at end of year. How some of the players are still in after 2 floggings, maybe Roosey doesny want to make finals as they arent good enough then my question is why not leave BM and add the likes of BS PV SR LJ and give them some game time. Bevo Ted R etc have had plenty of opportunities to cement place. RS and JS plus ROK are all very lucky as are BK and JMcV I am non plussed on the selection policy.
where are the youngsters in this side. As long as you are a longserving person you will get a game doent matter how you play.

Wow. Just read that article. Roosy didnt hold back ( apart from not naming them). As for not handing out games.. Um, Bevan, Richards anyone? ( and as much as i hate to say it Brett Kirk has not been at AFL standard for a fair chunk of this year) Sides like Richmond, Melbourne, North, Freo have showed that if u want younger players to come on u have to allow them a chance to play AFL football for a sustained period of time. Hopefully Longmire is a more kid friendly coach, I'd hate to see us lose some of these potential stars for our footy club. I think there should be some questions asked at the end of the year of whether Bevan, Tadgh, Shaw, Richards are part of our future. And if they aren't, show them the door. We need spots to play these kids

I thought he was hard done by being dropped in the first place Shaw and TDL seemed to work well in the forward line together the Swans weren't used to finding that much pace

                              Bit harsh on Tadgh.

If Smith isn't fit the perhaps the coaches will have o look at McVeigh, considering he's not doing much in an offensive role

The other interesting decision is whether Kirk will go Mitchell again. He hardly started in the center square if at all and that's where Mitchell will be. He blanketed Mitchell for tree quarters earlierthis year but unfortunately Mitchell broke free in the last and Kirk couldnt keep up. Perhaps on the smaller ground it won't be as much of an issue

Smith is very important, he is the player most likely to shut a star down & get plenty of it himself. I think he is a very underated player. I think Kirkie should [play forward & Jack to Mitchel, Smith to Hodge
