Goodes seems to be finding his mark as a Pavlich type player - finally. He roves between the center and half forward and that's where I think he is most dangerous.

I'd like to see Pyke in the hole. He's done it acouple of times this year but I think since Teddy's comeback the position has been filled. It's obviously where Ted plays best, but he looked good as a forward a few weeks back and I wouldn't mind seeing that happen again.

Maybe. There is more to getting onto the field in the firsts than playing well in the seconds. Take your pick about what Roos may be referring to:

Turn up to training and recovery sessions on time.
      Train hard.
Do the program of physical and mental exercises prescribed.
      Follow the game plan.
      Strive to achieve targets set.
      Follow the diet given.
      Do the homework/assignments.
      Meet with mentors.
      Listen and learn.
      Be punctual.
      Don't drink midweek.
      Don't take drugs.
      Get enough good quality sleep.
      Study hard.
Do what you have been contracted to do.
      Honour agreements.
      Manage injuries as prescribed.
      Follow instructions.
      Don't whinge.
      Live by the Bloods code.
      Play for the team.
Take responsibility for yourself, your playing and your attitude.
      No excuses.

I liked that Jesse.might be an idea if others had a look at it and removed some emotion from their thoughts.

I'm talking about the whole year, not the last month.

Shutting down the oppositions worst or 2nd worst player is hardly cause for celebration!

Surely you don't consider Varcoe their worst/2nd worst? He is a quality small forward who has kicked bags of 4 and 5 this season.

Agree. He would certainly walk into our side.

Absolutely brilliant morning here in Sydney. Very cold but blue skies and not a breath of wind at this stage.

Mind you, I'm well inland from the SCG and things may be different there, but all points to being a great afternoon at the footy. Just about to jump in the shower and head off in 45mins for the ressies.

Varcoe has been in career best form this year, he is now an extremely valuable player to geelong, far from their second worst

Agree he is good. However he is still their 4th best small forward.

I'm looking at their team for tonight and am struggling to name 2 that would be worse then him. Even if we argue over that, he is definitely in their bottom 5.

He is their second best small forward, and there's no shame in that when Stevie J is the best. Varcoe is a better player than Stokes, while Chapman isn't a forward any more, he's a genuine midfielder.

As for who he's better than, I'd pick him before Byrnes, Stokes, Lonergan, Woj, Hawkins and Mooney just off the top of my head. He's a middle-tier player at Geelong and very, very dangerous. He's also exactly the sort of player that Kenelly has tended to have problems against his entire career, the blend of lightning speed, agility and physicality at ground level (I've always thought Kennelly was actually better off shutting down the medium sized flanker-types and running off them). Kennelly's win was a very good one and should not be downplayed.
