He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

      Swans vs Blues Matchday thread

[QUOTE=gloveski;506420]kennedy was born to play finals he just has that steely resolve about him... [\quote]
He has been playing great all year and was able to keep it going at the higher level that is finals footy.
TDL's tackle is the highlight of the year for me. I should actually say tackle and resulting goal.
Well done to all that trekked out to stadium Australia, the R&W looked great in the crowd. The noise must have been awesome in those final minutes.

My head is pounding, figuratively and literally.

Kudos to Marty and Mummy - two guys who were significant in lifting the team's intensity in the final quarter. I realise Mattner was beaten by Walker most of the game but he found some clean possession down back in the final quarter when the rest of the team was struggling to pick the thing up.

Kudos to Smiffy (thanks for the prompt Nico) who was sensational all game on Betts.

And biggest kudos of all to TDL. Playing his first AFL final but you wouldn't have known it. How far has he come since that bundle of nerves that debuted a few months ago. Awesome goal that turned out to be the sealer.

          That was nice, wasn't it?

OK, I won't get my voice back till next week. But it was still nice.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

What a huge difference a sharp shooter makes to a forward line. TDL has added that accuracy and gives players the confidence to go to him. He doesn't need too many possessions to make a difference.

A stat they gave on TV is that we have only won 7 third quarters this year. Is that when Roos gives his midfield rotation a breather?

Terrific fightback in the last quarter after we went off the boil in the third, for some reason I kept thinking of the 2005 GF when we went goalless in the third quarter and recovered to win. It was almost a reprise of that game with Judd playing brilliantly as he so often did in all those Swans-Eagles finals, fitting for Kirk's last final in Sydney. Jack had his colours lowered, but that's ok, Judd was fantastic today and was the main reason the Blues got back into the game. The first half was pretty much the way the Swans have been playing the last four weeks, not sure of the reason for the third-quarter fadeout, it was almost as if the guys needed a reminder that they were playing finals footy as opposed to the H&A stuff, and it certainly seemed to spark them in the last quarter as they just started to get their hands on the footy first again. Hard to say how we will go against the Dogs, the team that loses in Week 1 usually bounces back the next week but they are really struggling, though I think that game will take its toll with only a 6-day break. But Kirk gets another finals game on the MCG!!

Kennedy was simply outstanding today, and I agree with Nico about Kennelly. He had some critical touches in the last and gave us some drive out of defence.

All in all, another great crowd, and great day at the footy!

I am totally spent after that. I'll be dead set using sign language tomorrow to communicate.

Is it dodgy to have a huge man crush on TDL???

                      On the contrary, very appropriate.

Just crawling in from the game. Oh ... my ... god/dess/es/Elvis. No voice left, nothing coherent to post. After that nightmare Carlton comeback (can we stop with the third-quarter-naps???), 4th quarter all I could keep chanting was "we can rise to this, we can win this" between screams and everything and what-have-you. You know you've gone feral when, in the closing minutes when it could still have gone either way & I (quite vocally) was fearing Carlton was punching back yet again, a woman from across the aisle reaches over to touch my arm and says "it's okay. There's only 30 seconds left".

TDL is a god in the making. Pre-game I met RWOers in the flesh! who are wonderful. Now I'm going to attempt to find some way to calm down. And then ... begin scheming ways to get to the next round.

Great to prove everyone wrong again. A final win in those circumstances adds so much to our crop of youngsters. Well done boys, that will do me.

I concur mate. It was terrific to catch up and put some faces to the names.

Over on BF the Carlton supporters are moaning about the umpires. They reckon they were slaughtered. As I saw it we could have received a few HTB decisions in the last quarter, but the umpires didn't decide the result.
