Yes we over achieved but boy we looked tired out there tonight - If Bradshaw had kicked the goal he shouldn't have missed who knows. Thing is I think it will be another Geelong flag and I would hate to go into a GF against Geelong at the moment as were are not quite there yet - bit like PA in 2007. At least we got some finals experience into some young ones.

Heartbreaking loss. Roosy and Kirky will be missed, the club today is so much better than when they first arrived. Having said that we need to look for the positives. We've done so much better than what everyone expected for this season. People were expecting us to be wooden spoon contenders but we've proven them all wrong. Jack, Kennedy and Hannebery are turning into the core of the next great midfield of the AFL, Geelong style. We deserve to be favourites to finish in the top 4 in 2011, and the next 5 to 10 years are looking so much brighter than they did just a year ago.Comment

Yeah I am with you on this one for sure, they will get away with it for exceeding expectations but with the Prelim door wide open and a 30 point lead in the 2nd quarter, I am very guttered at the capitulation.Comment

What an insipid, dumb performance that was. We can reflect on Roos and Kirk later, but the fact is we just lost a final we never should have lost. I'm fuming."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

It wasn't just the 30 point lead, it's the fact that we were dominating general play. All of a sudden we just stopped and they started dominating us. We showed them mercy, whereas mentally strong teams like Geelong don't take the foot off the pedal no matter how far ahead they are.
I'm getting very very drunk tonight.Comment

We've always struggled to put the foot down. Those two goals before half time killed us and then the dreaded 3rd quarter. We've got to be the worst 3rd quarter team around. Ah well. Personally I think we lost in the middle. Just like last week we stood around watching the opposition. Bradshaw was in no way a poor decision. 3 goals 4. A few stupid misses but he put us in the contest. One thing happened that I was worried about and that was when you play Braddy it takes TDL out of the game. I hope that it steels them for next year. Be interesting to see what Horse brings to the table.Last edited by Nich; 11 September 2010, 10:12 PM.

Seriously, how good are the South Melbourne Market dimmies?Comment

Who knows why teams just suddenly stop. After an even first quarter, why did the bulldogs stop and let us kick five in a row? and after that why did WE let up? One of the mysteries of footy.
And more - why would Bradshaw, one of the most accurate forwards playing the game, make a few crucial misses? After a great season, why did Reg have a case of the nervous fumbles when lining up against Hall? After being a revelation last week, why was TDL unsighted?
The core of the side is no longer the rocks of 05/06 and the toughness will come, it will be learnt.
We were damn close, and but for a couple of misses... who knows?
I guess now it's safe to send out invites to the Grand Final BBQ at our place, sit back, relax and hope Collingwood don't win
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....
