Dempster was sensational today. He wouldn't be in the team if he didn't have a role to play. Same as in 05. Good luck to him next week. I'll be barracking for him and Schneider again.

Yes there were salary cap considerations, but we should never have traded him. We had a settled backline and he had become an important part of it.

Must admit I was just barraking for Dempster and Schneider. So proud of Dempster, he has had a fractured career, but nothing shatters that exterior of his; blue steel again - still.

It's amazing how much I was barracking for Dempster and Schnieder and how little I was barracking for Jolly.

I think Dempster is a good player, I always enjoyed watching him play, although some of that may have been because I also enjoyed watching his Dad play in the 70's. To say he is a lousy player is really denying the facts, he is a good player, but will never be any more than that.

That's about how I see him too, but as we saw, a good (as distinct from great) player can make a difference at crucial moments. I wish our flying HBFers, especially Tadhg, could be as effective a stopper as Dempster.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

And got pinged for HTB, both resulted in a goal.
Besides that, he was very good. did a lot of the hard work without getting the stats!!

He's not in there as a flying HBFer though. The Saints have the likes of Gram, Gilbert, Goddard and Fisher variously playing a rebound role from defence. His role in the Saints team is far closer to that of a Smith, albeit he's a bit taller and bigger, or Mattner and Shaw (who sometimes defend, sometimes rebound).

Exactly Liz, and I sometimes ask myself why they traded him, and I answer myself 'because they had to trade someone! and he is injury prone" other than that I wish he could have stayed.

Well, he debuted in 2005, and now, assuming selection next week, he'll have played 5 GFs. Not bad

Point taken, but I thought he fulfilled that sort of role (HBF) for us a lot of the time. I just wish that Tadhg possessed Dempster's stopping power.

88% effficiency was the highest of the day. His HTB was a bit unfortunate, IIRC he had nowhere to go. There were plenty of blatant HTB on the day that weren't paid.

I must say Didak was very poor defensively and it almost looked "too hard" for him.
