2011 Sydney Swans Fixture - News and discussion

One year we will beat them there again. I'll be damned if I won't be there to see it happen.

I generally can only get to 5-6 games a year, but last year the Collingwood game was one. I had the most obnoxious drunk Collingwood supporter behind me.
OK it was just your average Collingwood supporter but that's pretty bad (strange as it seems I also had one sitting beside me who I had a good chat with who was a nice bloke and was hating the one behind us as much as me).

Anyway that was probably the hardest two and a half hours of being a swans supporter I have experienced. I stayed the whole game under duress as I have never left a game early and never will. I decided on the way out the gate that I was going to make sure I made every Collingwood game in Sydney until we beat them.

Given their form at the end of the year that could be a few years but there is no way I am missing it, and if there is more pain in the interim it will just make it better when it happens.

"It's a looming disaster. " Definately not, they are the best games. I discovered the Swans at a Friday night game back in 96 and never looked back. The atmosphere and the game got me hooked.

The looming disaster is carrying all the birthday presents for the Dr. I like the idea of a Friday night at the SCG. The TV ratings will be interesting though.

Bloody wonderful. Not only do we have to get across town during peak hour but we all have to do it bringing presents for you - and you somehow have to get them all home at the end of the game. It's a looming disaster.

heh heh. I'll find a way - I'll bring a sack or something.

I work in the city so it'll be a short trip to Surry Hills after work for a couple of lagers, and then up to the ground for the footy. I'll be ready for action!

I like the idea of a Friday nighter. I can go straight from work - and still have the rest of the weekend where I dont have to venture back into the city again - ticks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned. (should be more of them) And to those who dont like the idea of a Friday night - it is only 1 night when its all said & done! no different to a Friday night final - which if you recall we all attended by hell or high water so why should the H & A games be any different.

I finish work at Ryde at 5pm - have to get to Strathfield during peak hour traffic to pick up my 84 year old father and then get to the SCG in Friday night traffic. We drive because of this split trip and no way am I travelling home by train to Parramatta, where I live, by myself at night.

So good luck to those of you who will wander solo up to SCG from the city. leisurely stopping at a pub or two on the way. Half your luck.

Official prediction: Sydney will next beat Collingwood Round 11 2036. (Am I being unrealistically optimistic?)

Acknowledged - and yes peoples circumstances are different - but they have to cater for everyone - I prefer Friday nights or saturday nights - and I live out in the boonies too, I drive there rather than take public transport, that way I have control over how I get home. - others prefer Sunday afternoons (which I'm not a fan of as it takes up the entire day - but I still go) so its swings and roundabouts.

Pretty happy with the fixtures and VERY excited by the Friday Night game. While I get the issues raised, Fri night games start at 7.40pm, so the majority of fans can get there and the TV exposure for our club and sponsors is at it's peak.

Personally I LOVE Friday night games, normally a really fun end of week atmosphere, big crowd and hopefully good ratings for C7 which will ensure it's a yearly event.

I noticed we have a few 2.10pm starts for some Sunday games in Sydney which is brilliant news for our Melbourne fans that don't have Foxtel too.

Because Fox broadcasts the game that starts at 1.10pm and C7 broadcasts the game that starts at 2.10pm.

I was at that game as well. Believe me, the Demons game, sitting in the Great Southern Stand dodging sea gull poo whilst the team was getting thrashed was FAR worse.

As I suggested previously, take the day or half day off work. Surely your workplace is not that inflexible. Then pick your Dad up early and have dinner in the Entertainment Quarter. I'm self employed but if I was still in my old job, I would just take the day off work. It's only a job and if you dropped dead in your workplace tomorrow, they would replace you with someone else anyway. I'm sounding like a communist. Viva le revolution!!!!!
