Isn't Anthony out of contract? If so, how could Collingwood get a compensation pick?He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Reece Conca is one of our first round pick options (although I'm pretty sure Freo who have the pick before us have him firmly in their sights). Sports New First have an interview with him and a few of the other draft hopefuls on their website (Darling, Swallow ect) if any of you were interested, here's the link: http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/video/Comment

Dunno, the rules look amazingly complex. The Age says
Anthony has quit the Magpies and will nominate for the December 7 pre-season draft.
The Suns will have the first pick and, as it stands, could have up to eight of the opening selections under their list concessions.
Suns recruiting guru Scott Clayton last night said the new franchise would more than likely activate one pick but would not speculate on any interest in Anthony.
At age 22 and with the ability to fill a key position, Anthony could be a good fit for a club seeking hardened bodies.
The Magpies would have to agree to allow Anthony to join the Suns, as they have already lost one player to the league's 17th franchise - Josh Fraser.
But, if Anthony was to head north, Clayton said the premiers would benefit as they would receive a compensation pick, something that would not be forthcoming should Anthony link with the Blues, Dockers or Demons.Last edited by 707; 9 November 2010, 02:38 PM.Comment

The only way Anthony could get to us is through the National Draft, even then we might have to pull the trigger in the 2nd round to ensure that we got him. Handy player but not worth it IMO.
Likely to go through PSD in any case where he would likely be picked up by one of Dees, Bombers, Roos, Dockers (and any number of other unknown teams) before our pick.Comment

hhhmmmmmm............i still think handy and is only 22............if White doesnt get better this year and Bolton retires end of 2011..............and Mattner is close to 30 now...........I reckon for the right price he maybe worth the risk and we dont even know if Spida jnr will evolve just yet"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I'm not suggesting that we completely ignore him, but the word seems to be that he will be going in the PSD. Given the number of clubs with picks, salary cap space and the need for a marking forward before us we have absolutely no chance of him falling to us.
This is not a Bradshaw scenario, clubs won't be scared away with a 3 year deal for a 22 year old.
No point even discussing unless he chooses to enter the NDComment

I don't know how much room we have in the cap for next year, but players in the PSD have been known to put prices on their head so high that clubs can't afford them and they fall to who they've already agreed with in principle. I don't know if that's ever worked down to the 13th pick, though.10100111001 ;-)Comment

It usually only works if you are at the mid to lower end of the ladder, there aren't many interested clubs, and those that are have minimal cap space. I would think that Anthony -> Sydney would fail on all 3 countsI don't know how much room we have in the cap for next year, but players in the PSD have been known to put prices on their head so high that clubs can't afford them and they fall to who they've already agreed with in principle. Garry Moss has been invited to train with the Swans. Could be a useful addition to the Sydney Hawks, I mean Swans line up.

I seem to remember that Moss in his draft profile a few years back was a Swans supporter despite coming from Perth. Reece Conca who appears to be coming into calculations with our first pick is also a Swans supporter, again hailing from Perth.
Given our success with Kennedy and McGlynn this year, I'm all for testing out ex Hawthorn players - bring on the two Beau's as well I say!
Unlike last year, there are likely to be quite a few clubs with picks before us in the PSD so actually getting the player you want will be more difficult than Bradshaw last year. It does help however that players like Bruce, Anthony, Houli etc are on the radar of clubs before us in the pecking order. If we really want one or more of these players and they are eligible for the ND then using a late ND pick may be the way to go rather than the PSD although I think a minimum two year contract is needed.
Shaping up for an interesting few weeks.Comment

But the afl.com.au page says we have requested no extra players in pre-season training.
