The Spangher pick was a bit of a surprise especially after he trained with Hawks before the draft. But if there's doubt about Bolton, then like what liz said they've got the extra backup straight away.
Definitely happy with the young picks we got.Comment

reasonably happy although maybe McCarthy should have been in the picture at 21 a CHB although Lamb probably a replacement for Kirk and Parker maybe a replacement of JB in the next couple of years. Johnson considers himself a chf something I dont believe we need and surely there must have been someone better than Spanger. How many games did he play for the weagles and what height is he.?Comment

its certainly interesting this year with Everitt, Johnson and Spangher all being picked and can all play in defence and all talls
Bolton, Kennelly, Mattner all getting on in age now and Shaw looking like he has found a new home tagging a midfielder for larger parts of the game ?
It makes me think Rohan wont become a flank defender after all........
Im absolutely stoked with Parker though !!Last edited by Auntie.Gerald; 18 November 2010, 07:30 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Jed Lamb the next Steve Johnson...
The next Stevie Johnson | Herald Sun
Sounds like he may already be the best kick in the club!"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

I'm not disappointed with Sphanger...at times he showed a bit with the Eagles..don't know how bright he is though..has got all the physical attributes to be a good player but the message seems to take a while to get through.....may have just been unhappy over West..here's hoping"The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

Matthew Spangher asks to be traded
Link
An expected decision by Spangher and his management after his well timed inclusion into the team in round 19 to advertise him to potential buyers (which he did quite well).
At best he would've only been kept for depth with Glass, MacKenzie, Schofield and Brown ahead of him in the pecking order for tall defenders - so no great loss.
What will he net us?
Drafted at pick 34 in 2005 and currently 23 years old, he is still young and his best may be ahead of him. He has been groomed for a key position defensive role over his 5 years at the club, but hasn't managed to become more then a depth player in this time.
Defensively, although he tries hard, he struggles to match most forwards for both pace off the mark on the lead and strength in one on one duels. On the positive, he offers good run out of defence, but his disposal and decison making is unreliable. He has also not managed to get consistent games (only played 9 games for the season) with the worst team in the AFL this year which will put another dampner on any potential value.
At best it seems he would net a 3rd round draft pick on his own and that's probably a bit wishful, however it's more likely he'll be used by the club to try and achieve a 'pick upgrade.'
Some potential suitors are:
Sydney - they are the specialists at turning other club's rejected players careers around and making them into solid performers at AFL level. He would add to Sydney's young key position defender depth which they are a bit thin for at the moment. They also have good trade relations with West Coast based on past deals, which would make them my leading tip.
A trade involving Spangher and our third round (45) for their second round pick (39) would probably be the best outcome we could hope for."be tough, only when it gets tough"
