Is Craig Bird still alive? There are no interviews with him or even photographs of him in the background let alone the foreground......one of my favourites."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

Someone has to take the place of Jude one dayl.....and one has to admit that his first couple of years were spent fulloping around the perimeter of the rolling maul like an enthusiastic and poorly trained labrador pup. It took a while to grow into his status and ability. We wanted to sack Macca time and again. There are very few players that just plop into a position as if they were born to it. Give the kid a bit of time please!
But Merry is pretty darned good too, and Smiffy, and ... oh my.....hmm....let me have another think about this and I will get back to you.Last edited by Primmy; 11 January 2011, 09:30 AM.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Before falling to injury last year Bird had obviously worked on his pace and his evasiveness - he had added a nifty sidestep to his repertoire which he started to use a bit. I thought it was a really good sign in that he had worked on something that needed improvement, and for a kid thats always good to see. I think he has a place in the team if he keeps it up and if injuries don't rear their ugly head too much.
Meredith too has a place in the team as I think he has real footy smarts and seems to be a goer. As he develops his body and motor more I think he'll be a good 'un.
Its a good sign that guys like these two will have to work their tushes off to get into, and keep their place in, the team in 2011.Last edited by jono2707; 11 January 2011, 10:28 AM.Comment

Yes Satch, he's alive and well. He's an extremely shy kid and I imagine he would have a heart attack if they asked him to do one of those season report things.Comment

Ahy. Yes. Forgot about that. He gives LRT a run for his money in the reticent stakes doesn't he. Cannot imagine him in Horse's room moving his name around the board like RedRohan did on Roosy's whitebord. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Bird played 4 games last year - rounds 11 to 14. His time on the ground was 76.5 %, (while Kirk was there for 77.6%).
Merideth played 4 games from round 15 to 18, and had 67.25% of the time on the ground ( Kirk 84.25% for those 4 games).
Different season and coach, but some indication that Bird was rated quite highly last year.Comment

The number on Bird's back tells us that the club has always rated him highly. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

If McGlynn joined same year as Bird and Ben chose the number on Bird's jersey................?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Much the same as Bradshaw didn't choose 19 but was deemed a worthy recipient.

An astute observation, funny thing is, when Paul Kelly began with the Swannies, he was referred to quite frequently as "a human kelpie" ~ not quite a labrador pup but perhaps all canine recruits get put into #14?Comment
