I'd not seen much of Kennedy at the Hawks so didn't really have expectations of any kind when he came to us. But seeing how quickly he has blossomed given game time, it is bewildering that the Hawks couldn't see what he had. The family ties for him with the Hawks suggest that any real effort of their part to keep him would have been successful. Even the knock on his kicking seems way off. Sure, he sprayed a couple of his shots for goal (but then so did a certain dual Brownlow medallist) but those he kicked went straight as an arrow, and he was a more than reasonable converter of goal opportunities last year.

Just watched the replays.
No point commenting on the GWS game as was not really a game as such.
Re the GWS game, we could of should of won but McVeigh's brain fart and some other stupid errors cost it. Also obvious that the temperature took a massive toll on our ability to run and carry against fresh opposition.
I note that before Roos launched into Bevan from the commentary box for not cleanly taking possession, Everett tried to take a one handed mark under minimal pressure, which was really the instigation of the Matera goal. I wonder if Roos has it in for Bevan after Bevan took a gigantic sook for being dropped after kicking 3 goals in the Carlton game.
Notably underwhelming were Shaw, Mattner and Bolton. Agree with others that Sumner looks talented. Johnston looked okay but needs to lead harder because too often he was trying to take speccies in packs.
Biggest positive for the night was Birdie. He is a gun and if he can hold his body together this year will prove some doubters here to have no idea what they are talking about.
Bolton; In the first game we had Kennedy, Hannaberry and Bird at centre bounces. Even against inexperienced boys they were very quick and efficient. Come the second game and Bolton goes in there. Slow, didn't get to the contests and the GC boys got it away with ease. I thought that although Bolton got his hands on it a bit around the ground his disposals were either scrubby and/or indirect. I just wonder whether he will be the one fighting it out for the final midfield spot. Could he be sub of choice?
Liz mentioned Bird and Meredith fighting it out for the last spot. How saw it is Bird has missed a whole season and a bit and came out as if he has always been playing. Meredith doesn't do enough and is not quick enough. The poor, lacksadasicle kick for goal from a long way out was a good example of the way he plays. Roos said on TV TDL was on his own and it should have gone to him.
My observation is that JPK, Hanners, Bird and Jack are head and shoulders above Meredith, Moore and Bolton purely on their efficiency and centre clearance work and must be our starting 4 midfielders. Goodesy then becomes an absolute luxury as a floating midfielder.Comment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

On McGlynn; people are bit quick to condemn him on a few minutes of footy. It appeared to me he was only on to get a "bit of touch" and correct me if I am wrong, but didn't he have some surgey over summer?Comment

Far from condemning him at this stage. Just as we should be far from writing off warrior Jude after a rusty first up appearance.Comment

I thought it was a good hitout for our guys but interesting that Longmire admits to structure issues - is he thinking about up forward?? We had 20 inside 50s to 12 vs Gold Coast.
Swans have plenty to work on: Longmire - Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club
Sumner really impressive in both games, Kennedy great against GWS although no-one was minding him. Mattner and Ted were really good in game two.
Everyone else made a cameo - great to see Seaby taking marks up forward, Jetta and Malceski receiving and delivering, Goodes presenting, McVeigh dominant except for that howler. The one disappointment IMHO was Currie.
For those of us not who didn't sweat it out capless at Blacktown, Roos' commentary was one of the highlights.
He said Johnston was the best kick in the club and had a lot of positive things to say about Sumner. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Could Byron Summner be the Jarrod Harbrow of the Swans? Where does that leave Smithy?
Does the apparent emergence of Byron gives us an embarassment of small men? He could be the pefect sub, coming on at 3/4 time and using his burst off half back or even up forward. Looks a superb kick.
Lewis Jetta...he looked like he had a bit more muscle but will this interfere with his pace? Real Commando, do you have an answer on this one?Comment

Not writing Jude off, but more suggesting that we need a lot more speed around the ground these days. Generational change both in the game and squad might relegate Jude to sub status.Comment

Did anyone think TDL was a tad disappointing last night?Comment

Hey guys, first time poster, life time swans supporter. being in Darwin i had to go to the local pub/club last light to watch the game. the music was so loud and the place was crouded, far from a good night watching my team play. i was very excited to see everitt last night but TBH i think i only saw him once! did he play both games and what were peoples opinions on him?Swans & Fords. The two biggest loves of my life!Comment

Thought the delivery to the forward line hurt all our forwards but yeah Nico he wasn't at his best. Not that I'm concerned at this point about anyones form this far out from Rd 1. If we had issues in the last trial I'd be more worried but until then I'm going to have another beverage...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Liked that he took his swap number for himself (13 was Patty's).If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment
