Thanks Frog, well done. And did you get an impression of White?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

(Back home again) ... Not the best ground I have been to. Surface seemed OK and the players certainly didn't seem to have problems with it, but it is a Queensland ground after all. The threatening rain forced me to find a spot under cover so at least my phone wouldn't get wet. That cost me an enormous amount of vision with concrete posts and tents in the way. I missed a couple of goals (as I have indicated in the feeds) ... and yes, to keep both updated is hell, but I worked it ... I knew there were people waiting here and I also knew others were not near a computer (Scott at the airshow for example) that would be relying on twitter ... so if I looked slack, that's why ... Thanks all for your appreciation.

Yes Liam Patrick kicked the first two goals for the Suns - The first of those two thanks to a cross goal kick from Jetta that fell hopelessly short ... It was the start of the match so I forgave him. It was also the last time the Suns looked dangerous. There were four quarters, the first three of which were pretty much played in the Swans' attacking half. The last quarter started with play all over the ground - but by then Goodes was benched, Mummy only played a few "punch" minutes and the whole team seemed to have taken their foot off the gas collectively. They must have felt it as the Suns started to do some nice things but couldn't get scores on the board. By the end of the quarter, we were once again playing in our forward half and finished the match with 3 goals for the quarter. The Sumner goal came after a nice pass from Jetta.

What did I think of the players? Well, I tried to follow a few just so I could give you all a report.

I followed Jetta - Gave away the first goal to the Suns, on the restart gave away a free kick on the left wing, kicked another into attack straight to the opposition - and I stopped following him. He had a hand in a couple of goals later in the match (one where he kicked to Meredith who then hit Goodes on the chest, and one late in the last when he hit Sumner on the chest with a well placed kick.

I followed Goodes. It's why my gaze stayed in the forward line a lot - he just didn't move from there. I remember seeing him in the middle once, but he was back forward kicking goals before long. So I figured he was doing OK there. Matter of fact, he just did what he liked.

I followed Mummy. One of the reasons we won. Perhaps and I hate saying it, but that's how I saw it, when he was off the ground, play transferred to our defence. Some may say that Josh Fraser did OK, I saw Mummy teach him a lesson, not only in the air, but when you have a guy that size flat out on the ground trying to tap a ball to his team's advantage, then you have someone that is focussed. And that I think he is. At some stage I saw him come off, straight into the hands of the doctor but only for a blood nose. He will continue what he started last year.

I followed Teddy. A few people here don't like Teddy. I do. Unfortunately, he didn't get much of a lookin today. But what he did touch was OK. The whole defence stood tall today. By extension of following Teddy, I also saw the rest of the defence - but I never saw White in there. Maybe I had my head down while typing when he was there, but I do not have White in defence today. Impressive sleeve though (tatts) - very lean also. Heath was doing OK, so was Everitt - the latter getting the only non-captain's goal in the 3rd quarter.

I couldn't follow anyone else specifically. So, I have a few loose notes - Hanneberry did OK, kicked a goal. McVeigh is relishing his co-captain role, marshalling the troops (he led the team out and was the on-field captain today). ROK looks bigger this year if that is possible. He is strong and was doing OK also. Really I could rattle the "they were OK" for all of them. Jetta made a couple of mistakes, the rest of the time, honestly, the Suns didn't get near it.

I for one am looking forward to the season. Bring it on - I think we'll do fine this year - pencil in finals tickets.

I did not see the warm-up - I saw him come out with the players and noticed him limping - but only a slight limp. If it is an achilles, it didn't look like a tear because he wouldn't be walking - Maybe just some soreness. There was no bandaging I could detect nor was he on crutches.

I really really want Rohan fit for round one, I hope it's just a bit of soreness.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

HS says he did it in the warmup. If he has ruptured his achilles tendon then we could be looking at quite some time out. Hamish McIntosh is one recent player who is struggling to recover from his achilles issues, and of course we all know too well the battles facing Craig Bolton in his recovery from his achilles injury.

Tadhg Kennelly, Daniel Bradshaw, Rhyce Shaw, Marty Mattner and Gary Rohan, who pulled out after twinging his achilles in the warm-up, were missing.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think we might have had discussions on this before - he's rolled his ankle a few times now. Young Gaz actually has an akward walking action. - hard to explain, maybe someone else has noticed? Hopefully this isn't something we get used to hearing.

You're correct Nich, we definitely had this same discussion last year when he looked proppy in a ressies game. He does have a strange action, though it obviously doesn't stop him running like a gazelle, but it is indeed unusual all the same.
