Bizarre comment to make when LRT shepherded ROK's goal through, also held off Merrett to give Goodes a one-on-one contest with the younger Sheldon. Merrett who is one of the strongest fullbacks in the comp and was in form as well.

I may have higher standards but those who called that a four qtr
      Effort are kidding themselves.
Our clanger rate in the second half was embarrassing and messers
Mattner and Richards were the main culprits.
I also struggle to see Jetta's impact on the result - as he had little
      Involvement.
Maybe our boys were fatigued from last week but I am still
      far from convinced.
Horse, please move Lrt back rest Everitt and give Lewis J a
Crack (as he has great skills and can play fwd and back)

Can't wait for mummy and kizza to come back next week.
They'll need a run if we want to have a shake at season defining
      Games against Blues and Pies.
      MUST WIN NEXT WEEK!!!
Gee thats harsh on Teddy and Mattner- they made a couple of errors in the second half but we really went into cruise control, and they have both had good seasons (Teddy superb so far). It wasn't a four quarter effort granted, but it didn't need to be- even with the foot off the pedal in the 2nd half we only lost the 2nd half by 6 points.

Richmond and Carlton games are very important in the context of the season, but the Collingwood game really is irrelevant unless we win. Most sides are losing to Collingwood, so its hard to call it a season definining game. Those matches are the danger games against teams like Richmond, St Kilda, Dogs (not going that well overall but tough games) and those against teams around us (Bombers, Carlton, Freo)

Didn't realise LRT who has played KP defence successfully has his strength removed when moving forward.

We won by 11 goals away from home against a side coming off a good win the week before so the pot shot at the team and some of our players seems strange to me.

I must say I have some sympathy with the original post. Our midfield and defence and pressure o the ball was very good. I still think our forward line was somewhat dysfunctional. A lot of goals were crumbed snaps in a situation where the ball was coming in with virtually no pressure on the player delivering and not much more on the forwards. Hopefully tdl will convert those early shots next week as he really did show (again) that he can time a lead. But for all the time and space and the flow of possession it was not like we were hitting players on the chest.

Great win tho and well played and the pressure around the ball and on the Brisbane forwards was fabulous. And I really like Aj.a

Loved the Fox commentary on this game. Lynch and Roos were bouncing off each other really well. I think Roos is worth twice the pay as a commentator. It has to be an easier gig than coaching, so I think he'll settle in there for w few years.

Jetta was slick tonight with his disposals. It would be great to get that sort of performance every week. Tige also impressed me for the second week in a row.

My best: Bolton, LRT, Mattner, Hannebery, Goodes.

You said it, the forward structure seemed to work well and its pretty widely held that Merret is the best fb in the game. I think it's official now, Jude is our biggest asset

Na, not psychic, just the best coach we have had, and just displayed to the world why. And why he was a good player. He reads the game. Mind you.......do do dodo, do do doodo.

A really, really enjoyable win- it reached the point where we were actually, god forbid, dissapointed when Brisbane turned the ball over going into their inside 50 during the first half. I was really impressed with Hanners in this game, he seemed (to me) to be playing on a different Footy IQ level to everyone else on the field.

Apart from a handful of players I must admit I actually struggled getting a gauge on how most of the team played individually, it was such a whitewash around the ground for a large chunk of the time that it seemed as if you could just sit yourself on the ground somewhere and not do anything and you'd still probably get a dozen touches.

I don't think it's that odd a comment (although I probably disagree with it), I read "in the contest" as coming at the ball, not raw physical strength. Lewis probably doesn't run at the ball like a bull out of a gate; creating a contest and spilling the ball forward as a key forward is very, very different to doing the same as a key defender. I'm sure most of Lewis' pack crashing over the years have probably been from him coming in from the side/front of the pack (awkwardly, as only Lewis can do!).

I thought Lewis played quite well last night. I still don't think the forward line looked great, Lewis really looked to me to be playing as a gangly resting ruckman/3rd tall guy whereas they probably want him as a key target- but he still played well, 3 goals is a great outing for him.

                          This story:

Has a great write up about Bird explaining why he is in the team and come of football age.

LRT our new FF??? He has the height, strength, mobility, skill and nearly as good looking as Barry.

I have a non AFL friend who lives below LRT and he says that LRT and his parents are the most pleasant, unassuming and friendly people that you could ever have the pleasure to meet.

Which is why he cannot be considered a natural FF!!! However I am very proud of him.

                            Just as an addon:

I have just started to watch a gloating replay of the game (even though there is sunshine out there) and noted when they did the banner run, that Jonathon B looked for their mascot for the day, and quietly shepherded him through the mob and under the banner safely. Nice.

Did anyone else notice this: late in the game AJ kicked it out of defence to Shaw. It wasn't a bad kick but a bit of a wafter which gave a Lions player the time to come and spoil the mark. Shaw turned around and gave AJ quite a dirty look. I thought this was a bit rough coming from Shaw who, let's face it, doesn't mind doing the odd clanger. (Sure enough, later in the game Shaw kicked it a short pass into the forward line straight to a Lions player.) Anyway, I didn't think it was a great look, AJ is a first year player and will make mistakes and Shaw makes plenty of his own..
